IDLE time debits going to wrong account in Epicor 9 from Vantage

Mike,

You have to add new GL controls. We had to add multiple GL controls for our indirect labor because we track different types of indirect labor and had departments to consider. If you search "indirect labor" in EpicWeb>Search Tips you'll find several answerbooks/tips on setting up the GL controls for indirect labor or how to modify the posting rules so indirect labor doesn't post at all. I'd suggest placing a support call asking for documentation on GL codes and indirect labor (Tech Tip 14401MPS). The Vantage/E9 conversion process doesn't handle the indirect labor changes well, at least it didn't for us. It was quite a shock when indirect labor that didn't go anywhere in Vantage all of a sudden appeared in E9's GL.On the plus side, it's a good way to learn GLCodes drive the finances in E9. Feel free to contact me if you need to.

Sue, our IDLE time indirect code is setup with an expense code of MFG (“Manufacturing”).  This is the same as it was in Vantage 8.  However, something new in
Epicor 9 that wasn’t in Vantage 8 is a menu called Indirect Labor Account which I “think” is somewhat similar to what Vantage 8 called “Labor Expense”.  But there is a tab called GL Control that Vantage 8 didn’t have.   I just looked and there is no GL Control
listed for the Manufacturing Expense Code (or ANY of the Codes we had setup).   Should it not have been upgraded to work from Vantage 8?  I’m not sure what I need to do here to make it work…  When I click to start a new “Type” under the GL Control Tab and
then click Search, all I have listed to select from is “Indirect Labor”.  I select that and then I click “ControL” and search there and nothing comes up for me to select anything.  Any help would be greatly appreciated….

We had to set up GL controls for indirect labor after we converted to E9 from Vantage. The setup programs you need are in Job Management>Setup. Our indirect labor codes link to expense codes (indirect labor account maintenance). The indirect labor accounts
need to have a GL control associated with them. You will set up the GL controls to direct your indirect labor to the appropriate GL accounts.

Since the conversion to Epicor 9 from Vantage 8.03, we have been seeing transactions identified as “Labor” showing up in an account where we had not seen them in Vantage. Upon further investigation, it appears that Epicor
is debiting account 46000.01 (Cost of Sales) when production employees are clocked into “idle”. The credit side of this entry is 78000.00, Applied Direct Labor.

This is not the same as we had in Vantage8.03 as the debit was not to a COS account.

Note that, when employees are clocked into jobs, Epicor debits 12710.00 (WIP Labor) and credits 78000.00, which is what we would expect.

Can anyone tell me what I could check to see what is happening to the IDLE time debits???

The credit side of this entry is 78000.00, Applied Direct Labor.

This is not the same as we had in Vantage8.03 as the debit was not to a COS account.

Note that, when employees are clocked into jobs, Epicor debits 12710.00 (WIP Labor) and credits 78000.00, which is what we would expect.

Can anyone tell me what I could check to see what is happening to the IDLE time debits???

We had to set up GL controls for indirect labor after we converted to E9 from Vantage. The setup programs you need are in Job Management>Setup. Our indirect labor codes link to expense codes (indirect labor account maintenance). The indirect labor accounts need to have a GL control associated with them. You will set up the GL controls to direct your indirect labor to the appropriate GL accounts.

Since the conversion to Epicor 9 from Vantage 8.03, we have been seeing transactions identified as “Labor” showing up in an account where we had not seen them in Vantage. Upon further investigation, it appears that Epicor is debiting account 46000.01 (Cost of Sales) when production employees are clocked into “idle”. The credit side of this entry is 78000.00, Applied Direct Labor.

Sue, our IDLE time indirect code is setup with an expense code of MFG (“Manufacturing”).  This is the same as it was in Vantage 8.  However, something new in Epicor 9 that wasn’t in Vantage 8 is a menu called Indirect Labor Account which I “think” is somewhat similar to what Vantage 8 called “Labor Expense”.  But there is a tab called GL Control that Vantage 8 didn’t have.   I just looked and there is no GL Control listed for the Manufacturing Expense Code (or ANY of the Codes we had setup).   Should it not have been upgraded to work from Vantage 8?  I’m not sure what I need to do here to make it work..  When I click to start a new “Type” under the GL Control Tab and then click Search, all I have listed to select from is “Indirect Labor”.  I select that and then I click “ControL” and search there and nothing comes up for me to select anything.  Any help would be greatly appreciated….
