I got mad at Direcway and cancelled both work and home connections. I'm on
cable for both now and am satisfied with the service. I still have the both
the One way and Two way dishes I'd like to get rid of. So if anybody wants
a deal write me off list.

Shirley,
I have used Direcpc (Direcway) at home for several years. In talking to
support last month they said they do not count Windows Update downloads
against the FAP. This was talking to them about a home system though, not
the business solution.

DSL - DIGITAL SUBSCRIBER LINE - This requires you to be a certain distance
from the hub for good high speed service. If you are much past 5 miles
forget it. Advantage cheap, disadvantage - you are pushing signals through
50 year old wires, expect signal dropouts, and if you have downloaders in
the neighborhood they can suck out some performance.
Satellite - Two way satellite - One way satellite - reasonable choices if
you done have any high volume- Disadvantage - FAPPING (Fair Access Policy -
169 Meg an hour - exceed that and your speed drops to less than a modem. So
you can maybe do a Microsoft update on one machine a day. Performance
generally is good to very good.
Cable - (RoadRunner if you can) By far the best choice most cable companies
turn the tap wide open. Few drop outs. (If you have a good cable company
you have very good service, bad cable company lousy service)
Dedicated T1 - T2 -T3 - A geeks wet dream. Very expensive but counterparts
will look upon you with awe.

Sorry of the off topic question
We are investigating switching from dial-up internet service to something
faster. Can someone give me a quick run down of what the various types are.
For instance, what does DSL stand for?
Thank you
