Sure it's possible. You'd have to set the BOM for the weight needed per
part. Not sure what your business is but in ours we convert the purchase
unit of measure of lbs to an inventory UOM of inches. With bar stock we
feel it is easier to think in terms of inches. It would be difficult to
tell a saw operator to cut off 25 lbs of material from a bar. But easy to
instruct him to cut off 7".

Is it possible to issue raw material as pounds instead of EA to a job?

We purchase bar stock as pounds but it gets converted automatically to
pieces using a factor in the PO. Can we purchase bar stock as pounds and
then issue it as pounds to a job? How would the BOM be set up to accommodate
this?

Sounds like your getting ahead of your self purchasing bar stock as pounds
and putting it into inventory as pieces.

First you need to purchase the bar stock as pounds and put it in to
inventory as pounds.

Then job would list the bar stock as material with a quantity per equal to
the weight of the part. The job would then calculate the requirement as job
quantity times the quantity per (weight of part) and give the material
requirement in pounds required. You would then issue the bar stock by pounds
required.
