I never touched the Vantage.ini here's what my startup section looks like.
The only one I had to edit was the progress.ini.

Okay. Our data collection runs off of Plant Floor.vtg and all other vantage
users use Vantage.vtg

After opening these files in edit mode I noticed that they both point to the
IniFile=V:\vantage\vantage.ini

Now, if I create a new vantage.ini called new_vantage.ini without a
ClientTimeOut=20 line and have Plant Floor.vtg point to this .ini file, will
this work?

Or will it not because of the init2reg we did in Progress earlier?

Thanks again.

The progress version that shipped with Vantage 5.1 had a problem with the
ClientTimeOut setting and would time out Data collection. None of the prior
versions or newer versions do this. I think it was Progress 9.1A ???

It works fine on 5.2 and the version of progress that came with it. It does
not time out data collection stations as they update the clock every minute
and never are inactive for over 20 minutes. (that's what our time out is set
to) I'm assuming if you set ClientTimeOut equal to 1 it might do that. We
went from Vantage 4.0 to 5.2 because the feature worked too good on Vantage
5.1.

One thing I have noticed is the time out isn't exactly the number of minutes
you set it to. It might be a minute or two sooner than the time you put in
the ini file, but you just have to play around with it. We tried 30 minutes
at one time then moved to 15 minutes after that we found that 20 worked the
best for us.

Do I remember that you can't disable this on individual computers? I have

Could you tell me if I am wrong?

There is a setting in the progress.ini file under the X:\progress\bin
folder. called ClientTimeOut that has to be added and the value set.
After
you set this value you have to push this into your registry using an init
to
reg command. I think it's a program we got from Vantage support.
Stephen,
the programmer here, is going to e-mail you the files you need to your
yahoo

Here is a copy of our startup section of the progress.ini file.

Rodney,
It looks like you are using Mike Podlin's Timeout utility, which is
not
a Vantage product. You will need to contact Mike to get a new license

you
will need to email him you Vantage.vtg file and the name of your server.
He

We have upgraded our Server from Windows NT 4.0 Operating system to
Windows
2000.
Since the upgrade, we have been unable to properly run the Timeout
facility.
We are currently running on Vantage version 5.2.
When accessing Vantage, we now get the following message:

"Invalid License

Check to see if the License Code is entered correctly in your
V:\Vantage\ClientTimeOut.ini.

This program will run in shareware mode and will close Vantage after 5
minutes of idle time."

We are able to access Vantage, but all sessions idle for 5 minutes are
terminated, which is unworkable.
Our ClientTimeout.ini file reads as follows:

[Vantage Client TimeOut]
License=PKUKIFJJ
DefaultTime=20
MultiSession=No

Would anyone in the Group know how to get around this problem?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Rodney,
It looks like you are using Mike Podlin's Timeout utility, which is
not
a Vantage product. You will need to contact Mike to get a new license
number. His licenses are based on the server address or server name, so
you
will need to email him you Vantage.vtg file and the name of your server.
He
can then issue you a license. I'm not sure of his current email address

Subject: [Vantage] PROBLEM RUNNING TIMEOUT FACILITY

License=PKUKIFJJ
DefaultTime=20
MultiSession=No

Would anyone in the Group know how to get around this problem?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Paul,
Do I remember that you can't disable this on individual computers? I have

Could you tell me if I am wrong?

There is a setting in the progress.ini file under the X:\progress\bin
folder. called ClientTimeOut that has to be added and the value set.
After
you set this value you have to push this into your registry using an
init to
reg command. I think it's a program we got from Vantage support.
Stephen,
the programmer here, is going to e-mail you the files you need to your

Rodney,
It looks like you are using Mike Podlin's Timeout utility, which
is
not
a Vantage product. You will need to contact Mike to get a new license
number. His licenses are based on the server address or server name,
so
you
will need to email him you Vantage.vtg file and the name of your
server.
He
can then issue you a license. I'm not sure of his current email

Subject: [Vantage] PROBLEM RUNNING TIMEOUT FACILITY

We have upgraded our Server from Windows NT 4.0 Operating system to
Windows
2000.
Since the upgrade, we have been unable to properly run the Timeout
facility.
We are currently running on Vantage version 5.2.
When accessing Vantage, we now get the following message:

"Invalid License

Check to see if the License Code is entered correctly in your
V:\Vantage\ClientTimeOut.ini.

This program will run in shareware mode and will close Vantage after
5
minutes of idle time."

We are able to access Vantage, but all sessions idle for 5 minutes
are
terminated, which is unworkable.
Our ClientTimeout.ini file reads as follows:

[Vantage Client TimeOut]
License=PKUKIFJJ
DefaultTime=20
MultiSession=No

Would anyone in the Group know how to get around this problem?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If possible, I would really appreciate the files as well.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I work with Paul, here is how you do the Client Time out thing.

Goto your progress/bin directory. In there you have two files we'll be
working with. One is the "ini2reg.exe" (we'll use this program to put the
client time out function into your registry.) The other file we'll be using
is the progress.ini. For my example we'll be setting our time out 20
minutes. You can change this number to whatever you want. It does not time
out data collection/shop floor logins unless they are "crashed out".

1. First thing you want to do is make a backup of your progress.ini. MAKE
SURE YOU DO THIS!!!

2. Edit your progress.ini file(make sure you have a backup) erase
everything out of it and put the following

[Startup]
ClientTimeOut=20

3. Save this as progress.ini

4. Double click on the file "ini2reg.exe" an interface will come up. In
the "1)Enter the name of the .INI file you wish to translate." field browse
out to your modified version of the progress.ini(the one with just
"[Startup] ClientTimeOut=20" in it) In the "2)Select the Registry base key"
select HKEY_CURRENT_USER then click on "Translate". Next in the "2)Select
the Registry base key" select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and click on "Translate".
(**NOTE**In a previous version of Progress I had to translate it into
HKEY_USERS. You may have to do this if yours doesn't work.) OK we're done
here let's exit out.

5. Erase your modified version of the progress.ini.

6. Put back your original version of the progress.ini.

7. Now let's edit your original version of the progress.ini and make one
change.

8. In your progress.ini your going to put the ClientTimeOut value. Don't
erase anything out of the progress.ini. We're just going to add a line to
it now. Make sure it's for the same number of minutes you had in your
modified version. It should look something like this. Look 5 lines down.
[Startup]
V6Display=no
;ImmediateDisplay=yes
;MultitaskingInterval=100
ClientTimeOut=20
DefaultFont=MS Sans Serif, size=8
DefaultFixedFont=Courier New, size=8
DLC=d:\epic52\progress
Use-3D-Size=Yes
PROBUILD=d:\epic52\progress\PROBUILD
PROPATH=.,d:\epic52\progress\gui,d:\epic52\progress,d:\epic52\progress\bin,d
:\epic52\progress\PROBUILD\EUCAPP\EUC.PL,d:\epic52\progress\PROBUILD\EUCAPP

[Colors]

9. Now save the progress.ini and exit. Reboot your server.

10. From now on any clients that are idle for more than 20 minutes will get
logged out of Vantage or any crashed processes after 20 minutes will be
cleaned up thus giving you back your Vantage license.

This is a built in feature in Progress and they do support it.

There is a setting in the progress.ini file under the X:\progress\bin
folder. called ClientTimeOut that has to be added and the value set.
After
you set this value you have to push this into your registry using an init

reg command. I think it's a program we got from Vantage support.
Stephen,

Rodney,
It looks like you are using Mike Podlin's Timeout utility, which is
not
a Vantage product. You will need to contact Mike to get a new license
number. His licenses are based on the server address or server name, so
you
will need to email him you Vantage.vtg file and the name of your server.
He
can then issue you a license. I'm not sure of his current email address
these days.

Subject: [Vantage] PROBLEM RUNNING TIMEOUT FACILITY

We have upgraded our Server from Windows NT 4.0 Operating system to
Windows
2000.
Since the upgrade, we have been unable to properly run the Timeout
facility.
We are currently running on Vantage version 5.2.
When accessing Vantage, we now get the following message:

"Invalid License

Check to see if the License Code is entered correctly in your
V:\Vantage\ClientTimeOut.ini.

License=PKUKIFJJ
DefaultTime=20
MultiSession=No

Would anyone in the Group know how to get around this problem?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

License=PKUKIFJJ
DefaultTime=20
MultiSession=No

Would anyone in the Group know how to get around this problem?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

There is a setting in the progress.ini file under the X:\progress\bin
folder. called ClientTimeOut that has to be added and the value set.
After
you set this value you have to push this into your registry using an init
to
reg command. I think it's a program we got from Vantage support.
Stephen,
the programmer here, is going to e-mail you the files you need to your
yahoo
account, as we can't send attachments on this forum.

Here is a copy of our startup section of the progress.ini file.

Okay. Our data collection runs off of Plant Floor.vtg and all other vantage users use Vantage.vtg

After opening these files in edit mode I noticed that they both point to the IniFile=V:\vantage\vantage.ini

Now, if I create a new vantage.ini called new_vantage.ini without a ClientTimeOut=20 line and have Plant Floor.vtg point to this .ini file, will this work?

There is a setting in the progress.ini file under the X:\progress\bin
folder. called ClientTimeOut that has to be added and the value set.
After
you set this value you have to push this into your registry using an init

reg command. I think it's a program we got from Vantage support.
Stephen,
the programmer here, is going to e-mail you the files you need to your
yahoo

Rodney,
It looks like you are using Mike Podlin's Timeout utility, which is
not
a Vantage product. You will need to contact Mike to get a new license
number. His licenses are based on the server address or server name, so
you
will need to email him you Vantage.vtg file and the name of your server.
He
can then issue you a license. I'm not sure of his current email address
these days.

License=PKUKIFJJ
DefaultTime=20
MultiSession=No

Would anyone in the Group know how to get around this problem?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

In other words, can vantage.ini be changed to have the ClientTimeOut line instead of progress.ini. This way it would only affect certain vantage users.

Or will it not because of the init2reg we did in Progress earlier?

Thanks again.
