I don't know about "too much time on your hands". I normally work 60+ a

I have three people who have PCs with XP home. They are attempting to
install a server (Win 2000) and setup a domain. My understanding is that XP
Home will not join a domain on the Pro version will. So.

1. How easy is the upgrade from Home to Pro?
2. Is there a way to setup the 2000 server as a member server and still
attach to the server's shared drives for a shared database?

Thanks for any info..I've got to do this on a Saturday and I'm wondering how
long I will be there..

The upgrade from Home to Professional is fairly easy. It does take about 1
hour to complete. It is basically a reinstall of the OS. You can connect
to a shared drive with Windows XP Home, but you can't join a domain. If you
have Windows 2000 as a member server you can connect to the shared drives
with XP Home. You can give it a try. Fine-tuning the security on the
Windows 2000 server is kind of a pain. If you setup access for Everyone
then it is fairly easy, but not very secure.
