Make and purchase direct - Job staging and processing

Hi ,

Can anyone provide some insight about processing make direct jobs and purchase direct POs? How would you approach the job staging? How would you set up the system to inform someone when a job is available to process based on material availability?

Thanks,
Jay

At one site we made a custom Pick List that listed all job materials, their source, qty status and locations.

The standard pick list was seen as lacking by their mfg dept.
Since they have complicated structures, deep levels, many material components that are a mix of both stock and direct.

Every site is different though.
Wonder if you can give any more details about your situation?

This is where BAQ’s and dashboards really can help, as well as other tools epicor gives you. All of the information you are looking for would be the in the database. The logic that your business uses will probably be different than another, which is why the canned reports usually have some level of “this doesn’t quite work for us”. For example, when we first went live with E-10 I just made a dashboard for stock parts suggestions because I didn’t know how the epicor job suggestions worked and it was easier for me to understand the logic if I just stepped through it myself instead of doing the work to understand the black box that epicor has built in. Now since it was a couple of years ago, my own system is a black box and I would have to dissect it again, but it works for us.

Material availability notifications (I use the term in a general sense) is going to hinge on the accuracy and timeliness of your receiving as well as shop operation reporting. Does your business do that well right now? If they do you can pull that information into a dashboard where you can see if what you need is available. If not, it won’t work.
