Make Direct Releases Look to Inventory

We occasionally overrun custom jobs and put the remainder into stock. Is there a way to have MRP for make direct releases look for inventory of the part in question first before it suggests a job qty? Say release needs 15 and we have 5 in inventory I would like to see a job for 10 suggested and unfirm.

Hi Joshua,

I have never seen the system do this type of thing automatically via a system setting. But I think you could uncheck nonstock on the part master when you receive them to inventory, so that they are pulled from inventory / planned from inventory henceforward.

I agree with @Nancy_Hoyt that there is no system that will do this. What you could do is to make sure you have a process in place where sales order entry people are checking the releases to see if there is inventory available. If there is inventory, they can un-check the make direct box.

Also, you could introduce a BPM that verifies the inventory and pops up an info screen to let the user know that there is inventory.

That would help on the entry portion in some cases, but not for the majority of cases that I’m thinking of in my head for us. Thanks for the input, I’ll have to figure out a way to navigate this. It’s a combo of having over runs from prior jobs in inventory, and receiving WIP to avoid having to transact WIP using AMM.

Sounds like Planning Contracts with some automation may get us where we need to go with this too, I’ll have to explore that further.

I haven’t used this feature, but wouldn’t flagging Auto Consume Stock in the part master help for this?

That reads like it is for sub-assemblies and not finished goods.
