Yup,
The first three weeks after Exchange was installed, we had to do a reboot at
least 5 times during business hours. Most of the times it was able to wait
until break or lunch, but sometimes they'd come back from lunch to find the
server down while we tried to figure out what was going on.
However, we did save quite a bundle by not having to buy a new server. My
concern is that we may eventually have to if V5 requires significantly more
CPU power and bandwidth than V3.
We have 20 end user licenses, and about 40 users connected to exchange over
a 100mpbs lan. current DB size is only 180 megs.
my colleague was wondering how if we can somehow integrate vantage and the
exchange server together so custom reports could be automatically e-mailed
and such. We also may consider setting up a web front-end soon-the road
employees can check job status, inventory and what not.
Any ideas?
Thanks everyone,

Thad:
Just a thought to keep you up at night: We've used exchange server for over
a year, and due to any number of problems completely out of MY control, have
had to reboot quite a few times-so I don't recommend having exchange on your
Vantage server. I hate having to reboot the Vantage server during the day.
The exchange server? Oh, well, nobody gets e-mail for 20 minutes.
Plus, exchange creates a lot of overhead, so I have it on a separate
machine.

Thank you very much for the information. It sounds like my perception of V4
has been somewhat biased.
Just curious, how many users are you running, and what are the specs on your
server? (RAM, CPU Speed especially)
Vantage 3 runs so great on our server that we decided to install Exchange
Server 2000 on the same server. Performance has been pretty good.
What would all you V4 and V5 users reccomend as far as server power goes?
We're running a pentium II 300 with I think 512 megs of ram.
We have a newer file server, but we want to keep that dedicated to file
serving if we can.

We have experienced FAR less bugs in Vantage 4 than Vantage 5! We have
been on Vantage 5 for almost 3 weeks now, and performance is MUCH
slower, Datacollection via Citrix still locks up from time-to-time,
Customer Tracker brings the entire server to it's knees, the new price
lists have really screwed up our pricing, and Bill-of-Lading causes the
"pages-per-sec" to peg out on the server! ... oh, and EDI is still
broken! (now there are no "Ship-to" or "Bill-to" addresses!
