Manufacturing Suggestions

In 6.1 Anyway, Suggestions regarding manufactured and purchased parts
are store in the PartSug table, and the key fields for filtering are
probably PartSug.Type and PartSug.SubType.

When MRP runs, it creates suggestions to postpone, reduce or increase a
quantity on a job. Does anybody know what table that information is
stored on?

Thanks,
Jasper

Since upgrading (?) to 4.0 we have had several problems -- at least we think
they are problems:

1. WIP report doubles material on some jobs -- when you look at job tracker
or print production detail the cost is correct but when you print WIP the
material cost is wrong.

2. Manufacturing Suggestions -- they keep returning even though we have not
changed the sales order. Does the manufacturing suggestion program run
through all sales orders when a new one is created? We cleaned this all up
when we went from 3.0 to 4.0 (we are on the latest patch) and now the
invalid ones are back again.

Thanks for any help!

Sandy
This one seems to confirm my hypothesis that Vantage 4 is Release 5 Beta.
We are planning to do our upgrade from 3 to 5, skipping 4 entirely because
of all the reported bugs. 3 has been pretty rock solid for us, and any
glitches have been promply fixed witht the help of Epicor.

However, Crystal 7 seems to be a little buggy. Does anyone know what the
latest patch level is? Anyone happen to have the patch? Seagate's site
only seems to support version 8.

Thanks,

Thaddeus

There was a "MR1" (maintenance release) patch that you had to order on CD
(free, except for $20 S&H.) And another couple downloadable patches. They
should still be on the web site, perhaps with a little searching.

Help / About on mine shows: Product 7.0.1.200 CRW32 7.0.200.4

I think it has all the 7.0 patches available. After updating the copy on
my PC, I always copy any updated DLLs over to the Vantage server, too.

With upgrades always expect the unexpected. Can you afford downtime on
Monday morning. We are running 4 and it works great for us. Version 5 uses
the Progress explorer and some people have had a problem with it working.
It took us a weekend to upgrade, counting putting in custom crystal reports
and some custom programs. Your choice. We took the safe bet with 4 and
we're working great here.

We have experienced FAR less bugs in Vantage 4 than Vantage 5! We have
been on Vantage 5 for almost 3 weeks now, and performance is MUCH
slower, Datacollection via Citrix still locks up from time-to-time,
Customer Tracker brings the entire server to it's knees, the new price
lists have really screwed up our pricing, and Bill-of-Lading causes the
"pages-per-sec" to peg out on the server! ... oh, and EDI is still
broken! (now there are no "Ship-to" or "Bill-to" addresses!

Thank you very much for the information. It sounds like my perception of V4
has been somewhat biased.

Just curious, how many users are you running, and what are the specs on your
server? (RAM, CPU Speed especially)

Vantage 3 runs so great on our server that we decided to install Exchange
Server 2000 on the same server. Performance has been pretty good.

What would all you V4 and V5 users reccomend as far as server power goes?
We're running a pentium II 300 with I think 512 megs of ram.

We have a newer file server, but we want to keep that dedicated to file
serving if we can.

We are very happy with our IBM Netfinity 5500 server. Single Intel Xeon
550Mhz CPU, 512MB RAM (on 2 - 256 MB DIMMs), 4 hot swapable 18GB SCSI drives
(1 for OS, 2 Mirrored, 1 as automatic hot spare), dual load sharing power
supplies (either one has capacity for whole system). All we run on this is
Vantage V4 for 30 users + 10 Data Collection (on PCs). If we need to we can
add a second CPU, more memory or more disk capacity but I don't think that
will be needed for a long time.

We have 45 Vantage users, 4 data collection. All data collection and
about 1/2 of the Vantage users are running on Citrix Metaframe. Our
server is a Netfinity 3000, Pent. III 600 Mhz with 768 Meg RAM, with a
dual channel Adaptec RAID controller, and an external RAID cabinet. The
OS is loaded on the internal mirrored 9 Gig drives, and Vantage is
loaded on a RAID 0/1 array of 6 10K rpm drives via the second RAID
channel.

The only time our CPU "pegs" out is when someone is running an aging of
any kind! Most of the time the CPU utilization stays at around 30%-40%.

Thad:

Just a thought to keep you up at night: We've used exchange server for over
a year, and due to any number of problems completely out of MY control, have
had to reboot quite a few times-so I don't recommend having exchange on your
Vantage server. I hate having to reboot the Vantage server during the day.
The exchange server? Oh, well, nobody gets e-mail for 20 minutes.

Plus, exchange creates a lot of overhead, so I have it on a separate
machine.

Yup,
The first three weeks after Exchange was installed, we had to do a reboot at
least 5 times during business hours. Most of the times it was able to wait
until break or lunch, but sometimes they'd come back from lunch to find the
server down while we tried to figure out what was going on.

However, we did save quite a bundle by not having to buy a new server. My
concern is that we may eventually have to if V5 requires significantly more
CPU power and bandwidth than V3.

We have 20 end user licenses, and about 40 users connected to exchange over
a 100mpbs lan. current DB size is only 180 megs.

my colleague was wondering how if we can somehow integrate vantage and the
exchange server together so custom reports could be automatically e-mailed
and such. We also may consider setting up a web front-end soon-the road
employees can check job status, inventory and what not.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone,

Thaddeus Jacobs,

Plus, exchange creates a lot of overhead, so I have it on a separate
machine.

When MRP runs, it creates suggestions to postpone, reduce or increase a quantity on a job. Does anybody know what table that information is stored on?

Thanks,
Jasper

If you are referring to the Planning Workbench check out the PartSugg
table. Usually on a form you can right click and select Control List to
get an idea of the table the information is coming from. If there is a
grid on the form, right click the grid and select personalize or
customize to get the table names. If there is no table name then it is
a dynamic field and you have to guess!

Butch
