MRP suggestions

Planning WorkBench (under Production management/Job management/General Operations menu) allows you to select MRP action messages by Planner for Fab parts.

Buyers WorkBench (or PO Change suggestions) does the same (by Buyer) on the purchasing side.

If you want hard copy output (and don't mind killing a forest) you can print the "Time Phase Material Requirements" report (not a crystal report). Ours is several thousand pages long if we select all items (and thus useless).

It can be found under Production Management/Material Requirements Planning/Reports menu.

When MRP runs, it creates Jobs with a name that starts with MRP. These Jobs
are Un-firm. I can run Job Status Maintenance and select Un-firm jobs and
it will give me a list that includes all of my new MRP Job suggestions. If
MRP suggests that I increase the quantity on an existing Job, I don't have
any way to find out that information without opening all 11,000 of my active
Parts and looking at the Time Phase for each one.

Does anyone have a Report that will show me both? How do others handle
Vantage suggesting Job quantity increases without letting you know? Does
anyone have a problem with Jobs that have already been started and shipped
to the Subcontractor getting a suggestion to increase it? Does this cause
problems for anybody else or are we just doing it wrong?

I am wondering if anyone could help me add additional columns to the
existing stock status report. I am trying to add labor and burden to
the report.
Thanks for any help.

The Part Class on the Stock Status report is merely a sort for the
information on the report. You assign General Ledger accounts to Part
Class, so you might break out your part classes by raw materials, work
in process, finished goods, or what makes sense and corresponds to your
general ledger. This way when you run the stock status report by the
part class sort, it can act as a sub ledger to the GL. Hope this helps!

Hi,

I'm asking this for the second time.

Can anybody explain how they are using Part Classes to effect the
"Stock Status" report?

We have had multiple consultants tell us how important the Part Class
is in the Parts Master.

I suspect it might be useful for helping keep track of inventory, but
I've yet to see a real life example of a report using the Part Class.

Thanks,

Bruce

We use the part class to separate our stock status reports by finished goods, raw material and supplies.

Part class can also be used for time phase reporting. Especially useful
for combo runs of parts. Think of it as a family of parts that you may
need to look at for different reporting purposes. We use ours for
everything from breaking down sales, usage reports and inventory.

Part Class is also useful to mass-set part maintenance values for each class (that can then be overriden for specific parts if desired).

We have not been concerned with unique bin numbers up to now. Previously, everything went in and out of one bin, 00, as defined in the company configuration.
However, we are moving in this direction. I have a part with a default bin (R1B1) that is separate from the older default 00. This is listed as the default bin under the part master record.

I enter a PO for the part (after the new bin record has been created) and there is no apparent way of specifying the bin number on the PO for the part to be received to inventory.

When I attempt to receive the PO and do a mass receipt, it defaults to the 00 bin that is listed in the company config. If I change the default bin in the company config to R1B1, this will show up when doing the mass receipt on the PO. However, the bin numbers for each part will be different, and for some parts, 2 bins will be listed in the part master record.

I attempted to clear the fields for the default receiving warehouse and bin from the company config but then I get errors when attempting to open the receipt entry screen stating that no default bin and warehouse have been specified.

I believe that this is a function of having AMM installed. It appears that AMM wants to receive everything to the one default warehouse and bin and then create material move requests for these items.

Ideally, what I would like is the ability to print on a form or on the receiving screen, the location to where the receiving personnel should carry the inventory. But, this starts as a problem if this information is not tied to the po in the first place.

Can anyone please shed some light or suggest a solution?

Thanks
Carey

I see there is the "To Location" button, and under the mass receipt window, there is the button to "SET ALL TO LOCATIONS" which has to be selected AFTER you set the receive quantities because then the lines are removed from the mass receipt window and brought down to the stock line tab.

We use the Part Class to designate the unit selling price. The quoting module has a table that defines the markup of a part based on part class. We discovered this during our testing phase before we went live. This is a convenient way to determine if the unit selling price is what it should be even if a quote is not used for the sale. We have a report that analyzes the unit selling price versus the calculated price using the quote markup table. This way we can ensure we maintain the correct selling price.

This becomes critical for us because our part sales occur online using a system that is not linked to Vantage. Of course this only is useful if you have the quoting module.
