Merant ODBC and Crystal Reports

We also have the security button unchecked in the ODBC configuration, but
get the Progress login the first time you open a report, but not thereafter.
In Crystal 8, using the Web Server component (which will take a bit of
simple HTML coding), you can set up each report in a web page -- and the
user simply clicks on one of the links. You can have the password and
username embedded in the link so they don't need to enter it manually. That
might work if you use Crystal 8's Web Server Component. I've just been
experimenting with it as an alternative to compiling reports.

Hopefully a simple question. Is there a way to bypass the Progress login
when I fire up a Crystal report that attaches directly to the Vantage
tables? We have the company's founder (84 years old and still very much
going) who wants a SIMPLE way to run reports from his PC (yes he does use
one). He does not log into Vantage (too much screen activity to log on) so
I have contemplated using a Crystal compiled report to run from a shortcut
on his screen. Now I have the problem of getting past the Progress login
screen (there is no Progress password on my
Vantage database).

Any Ideas?

I'm not sure if this works in Crystal, but we use ODBC with Access to
connect to Vantage, and we used to always get the Progress logon screen.

When we upgraded to 4.0 and I re-installed the ODBC drivers, in the ODBC
Administration Configuration, under the 'Advanced' Tab, I unchecked the
'Security Required' box, and it no longer prompts us for a password every
time we run a report.

I haven't tried this in a while but we experimented with reporting over ouor
intranet using ASP, active server pages to query the Vantage database. The
machine serving up the pages, i.e. the web server, had the odbc driver
running but I don't recall ever needing to pass the Progress login. I also
tried unchecking the security option in the ODBC configuration. I get a
login prompt after a fresh boot the first time I access the database through
ODBC but not after that. Good luck in what ever you try.
