Migration from 8.034xx to 9.05

I seem to remember that the replication wasn't something that would make
all tables available. The way I understood it that you needed to select
in advance which tables to replicate. I inferred from this that maybe
all tables weren't available to replicate? Or there was an overhead
penalty that increased the more you added?

If you have further info or better yet, first hand experience that could
set me straight it would be appreciated.

Having the reporting hitting on a separate server is definitely superior
in my mind so long as the data is as current as the Progress DB.

Hi, we are looking to make this transition soon. We are looking at converting our version 8 data in progress to SQL for Epicor 9. Has anyone here had any expierence with it and how well did it work? I'm hearing conflicting things on whether it's a good idea or not, but it's only from a couple sources.

I'm with you the move from Progress to a SQL backend. In 9.05 you can leverage SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), which in my opinion is more powerful/flexible than Crystal.

As far as doing the migration from a Progress DB to SQL DB yourself, I've never heard of anyone trying or doing it themselves. My understanding is Epicor has to do this for you.

You can still leverage the SQL Server Reporting Services through the use of
Progress replication to SQL.
