That's one of my favorite "big corporation buyout" pet peeves. That unit,
and lots of other good ones were made by a company called
Nexland. Probably sold for about $250. Companies and other prospective
customers seemed to think it was too inexpensive to be any good (what with
Cisco and SonicWall prices.) Symantec bought them out, painted the boxes
yellow instead of purple, and tripled the price. Apparently they did well
after that.
We have a Nexland ISB Pro-800. You can sometimes find them on Ebay for
cheap. But Nexland is no more and Symantec's support for them is sketchy.
If you're not adverse to something a little more complex than an
"appliance" type box, there's IPCop.
http://www.ipcop.org/ Open source
freeware based on Linux that comes as a completely configured bootable CD
you can run on PC hardware. Haven't used it personally, but heard lots of
good reviews.
From their web site:
"IPCop Linux is a complete Linux Distribution whose sole purpose is to
protect the networks it is installed on. By implementing existing
technology, outstanding new technology and secure programming practices
IPCop is the Linux Distribution for those wanting to keep their
computers/networks safe. "The Bad Packets Stop Here!" "
