Multi company Blank Title 71737

No we don't.

We use it to keep track of what hours people work but that is about it we
export all that out and into a separate payroll system.

Charlie,
Do you guys also use payroll in Vantage? We do, and I'm wondering if that
tie in has anything to do with our issue.

As far as I'm aware our setup is the same as yours.

You need to make sure there isn't a username tied to the Emp Number but all
this would do is bring up a login screen.

We have one account for each plant that is used to log the terminal in and
then all the production emps do is type in their number.

What version of vantage are you all running?

Charlie,
Did you set up the log in ID's any special way? We have 5 locations with
multiple terminals using the MES. For each location, I created a generic
log in that only had access to that plant. This is when we started having
problems. The users just log in to MES with their own employee number.
I'll send the information you gave so far to our IT department to see if it
helps. Any other information you can offer would be great. Epicor has had
our database for almost 3 months and hasn't provided any help so far.

Thanks
Cindy

Check your server logs and see if anything is showing up in them. You may
need to adjust your logging level.

Our mes terminals stay up 24/7 365 so sometimes I go through and log out the
users and then clear out all the mes sessions in session manager cuz they do
weird stuff.

Do you have more than one MES terminal if so is it the same at all of them.

We use to also have to run a set of progress programs cuz users would get
locked into Jobs. I'll see if I can dig out the email with the instructions.
But we haven't had to do that recently. It seemed to be more common when we
were back on 305K we are on 407 now.

No...it just times out and kicks you out of Vantage. The only way to log
them out is to have a System Administrator log them out.

Hi,

I have been asked to customize Invoice Form and Packing Slip. Just a
little customization i.e. adding the logo, address.. Files don't seem
to appear on X:\mfgsys803\Server\reports folder. How can I locate
those files to modify?

TIA
Do a search for PackSlip.rpt and ARForm.rpt

Those are the names in 803.405 anyway.

Are there a lot you Companies on this list using Vantage in Multi-Plant
mode?

My CEO wants to know the best way to run a Multi-Plant operation. He wants
to be able to view each location and have the locations run as separate
entities, but use the same financial records. Is anyone on this list doing
this? Does each location use their own Vantage and merge the financials
into a third party program? Does each location have their own server? Do
you use the same server over a T1?

I need to put together a recommendation for our CEO.

We have multiple companies (3) on Vantage, but not multiple plants and
we do not have the multi-company module.

We have one database that the 2 off-site divisions access thru T1 lines
using remote access connections to server her for remote access.

We consolidate the separate financials into a 4th company within the
same database where the controller can consolidate everything from the
other financials. To be honest, it is the one area I am not too
familiar with, but he is happy and never has problems, so I like it :)

We don't have multiple companies but we do have multiple plants.

We decided to roll out as one company & one database. This gives the
ability to see each location & run separate income statements for each
location, but most balance sheet items are stored at a corporate level
(AR for instance is stored in one account regardless of who creates the
invoice, but the Sales & COS get credited to the proper plant). This
also lends itself to easily rolling up information (print an income
statement with or without detail to get company-wide or plant specific
information).

Currently we have one server and a terminal server that all remote
locations dial into over DSL. We're nearing the end of T1 installs at
all locations and plan to put the client on each workstation (removing
the terminal server), I'll post back when this is up to discuss
performance. Worst case down the road we may put replication server in
and put a server at each location.

The biggest problem we've had so far is people inadvertently logging
information into the wrong plant. You can restrict people to certain
plants, but some of our people require multiple plants. This is more a
training and time issue then anything.

I¹m not sure what ³replication server² means here. The replication
product that will be offered as part of 9.0 is only intended to support
read-only replicas for reporting purposes.

I¹m not aware of any real-time multi-master replication possibility for
Vantage. If you want to have multiple sites using the same database they¹re
going to have to connect to that database remotely, whether via native
client or via Citrix.

Am I off base here? I¹m bringing up a remote plant and they¹re
complaining that they¹re second-class citizens and that we should ³put the
server there for six months out of the year², or that ³the ERP system I used
to use would let us have multiple databases at multiple sites and it would
roll up magically at the end of the month².

I¹m seeing some performance issues with Citrix (despite adding bandwidth
at our HQ location) and am looking for a solution that will make everyone
happy. I¹m hoping I can get away with local installs but I¹ve seen some
problems in the past.

Ken,

Don't bother removing TS. I have 2xt1 with about 40 clients at a
remote site. Multi-company and multisite. The biggest issue is
reports. They can get big if not tuned and slow to print preview
and 'drag' across T1s. Using a TS box located at the same location at
the Vantage server will save you much headache..such as I am going
through. TS is the best way to go to present Vantage at remote sites.
You really reduce admin overhead too.

I tend to agree with Tom. We have multi-plant, but one company. One
server hosted off-site, and we constantly get errors regarding not
connected to the appserver. We have now deployed half of our users
using Citrix XenApp (Presentation Server), and they don't get the
appserver errors. Of course they have plenty of other issues, but
that is another story.
Ken,
Why are you planning to remove the Terminal Servers?
We use multi-plant, not multi-company. We have an operation in Juarez
with about 60 people, but only about 4 users. They log onto Vantage
using a terminal server to access the server here. It seems to work
well enough for this workload. We have had problems setting up BOM
revisions across plants and have had trouble with standards rolling
correctly. We have not been able to set up separate standards for the
two plants, as it appears to not work correctly. Maybe it has been
fixed in the past couple of months - we haven't gone back to try. We
set up the plants as two separate divisions, not companies, and this is
working fine.

To those of you who are running multi-plant and not multi-
company...do any of you use the MES for clocking in for payroll, and
also for logging in/out of jobs? If so, are you having any issues
with this? We seem to have problems every so often where we cannot
end activity. We set up log in ID's specific to a plant and only
gave the ID access to one plant. This was done because I don't know
of any other way to change plants in Vantage unless you are running a
full version and shut it down on the plant you want MES to start on.
Did we set something up wrong? Is there anything special to do when
using multiple plants other than setting up transfer definitions?

No...it just times out and kicks you out of Vantage. The only way to log them out is to have a System Administrator log them out.

Charlie,
Did you set up the log in ID's any special way? We have 5 locations with multiple terminals using the MES. For each location, I created a generic log in that only had access to that plant. This is when we started having problems. The users just log in to MES with their own employee number. I'll send the information you gave so far to our IT department to see if it helps. Any other information you can offer would be great. Epicor has had our database for almost 3 months and hasn't provided any help so far. Â

Thanks

You need to make sure there isn't a username tied to the Emp Number but all
this would do is bring up a login screen.

We have one account for each plant that is used to log the terminal in and
then all the production emps do is type in their number.

Charlie,
Do you guys also use payroll in Vantage? We do, and I'm wondering if that tie in has anything to do with our issue.

Cindy

Do you have a specific error message when this happens?
