Actually, I did not mean to make it a true "phantom" part in Vantage as
opposed to a manufactured or purchased part. I don't see an advantage in
doing that. Just make the ficticious level 0 part a manufactured part with
as many sub assemblies as you need.

You could also make something like a 'Phantom' part number / BOM for a
non-existent level 0 part number that has three different level 1
sub-assemblies, one for each (different wood) part number. Each time you
create a job from it, you'll have to adjust the "qty per parent" of each
level 1 part so that you're ordering the amount of each part you want to
make. That way, the job will generate requirements for each of the
different raw material wood types.
The level 0 part's operation does not need to be anything special or even
have a labor standard. The operators can report against the same job number
for the whole run but need to report against the three different level 1
'assemblies" (eg: ASM =Cherry, ASM 2 = Oak, etc). You would then receive
the level 1 assemblies into stock rather than the level 0 part.
Sound complicated but it's not too bad. Depends on your preference in
scheduling and reporting versus separate jobs for each different wood.

One way to do this is prior to moving the finished parts to inventory,
split the job two times. Change the part number for the two split jobs
to be what you want and keep the original job as the third part. It may
sound like a lot of work but it only takes seconds to split the job.
You get the costs proportionately based on number of pcs split. I hope
this makes sense, we use this procedure occasionally and it works well.

Out of the box, long and short of it is one job order, one part number.
If you can live with one part number for all the different color
configurations, then you can do it in one job. However, you will not be
able to receive it to stock as separate part numbers directly from the
job.
Our practice is to have a separate job order for each configuration of
cabinets. It's cleaner that way.

done this? How can this work?
