Gil,
We are also an Australian company part way into implementation and planning
on using the Configurator. Our experience with Epicor's knowledge of, and
ability to support the Configurator sounds similar to yours. Perhaps we can
get together and pool our knowledge. Feel free to contact me offline.

Subject: [Vantage] NEED HELP ON PRODUCT CONFIGURATOR
Our company is in the process of implementing Vantage 5.10.125. We are
still a fair bit away from going live. We plan to use the configurator and
would appreciate some help. Information in the help files as well as the
Epicor site is limited, to say the least. Same applies to the tech support
currently provided to us here in Australia, to put it politely.
Anyway, I've been doing some tests with simple made-up parts and hit on
one major stumbling block. It appears that a Part Master entry cannot be
created for a configurable sub-assembly within a configurable finished item.
In a nutshell:
Input Required: Choose color from a predetermined list
Level 0 - Finished Part configured correctly, Part number generated form
smart string, Part number entry in Part Master - OK
Level 1 - Sub-assembly configured correctly, Part number generated from
smart string, No entry in Part Master
All lower level and/or parts pulled as material were pulled in correctly
per the configurator.
Is this a limitation of the program out-of-the-box?
Any help/documentation/examples would be appreciated.
