O.T restricting internet access , Proxy?

We have been using Surf Control for about a year now. Not only can you
block access to sites, you can also block individual desktops - and
print out reports showing how much time people are spending on the
internet and where they are spending it (and what time of day). It has
given all of our employees an eye opening report - and the access times
are waaaaaaaay down now.

Try this site, its the Internet Access Management Supersite.
It explains software based systems vs appliance.
Logging vs blocking.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like Surf control wants 1 gig of disk
space.
Looking through the archives someone suggested disabling DNS and using
host
files listing only valid sites. Would this host file reside on the
client or
the server?

Thanks

Dan,

I just purchased a product called SurfControl about a month ago to
monitor
and block web sites. It does a great job and there is very little I
have to
do. It will run on Proxy Server, ISA Server of a standalone Gateway.

We are running S.B.S 4.5 using DHCP and Proxy server 2.0. I am looking for a
method to restrict a clients internet access to limited sites. It looks as
if Proxy cannot do this on a per client basis. DHCP server is disable on my
firewall thereby preventing the firewall from filtering access by client.
Anybody have any solutions to recommend?

Thanks

We use a product called Surfcontrol for this. It runs right on the proxy
server. Works very well and lets you control access by users or groups to
specific sites for each group. I highly recommend it.

Dan,

By the way, my internet connection usage dropped by about 90% when I blocked
all the sexual, chat, gambling, job hunting and about 10 other categories
with SurfControl. And, you can download and try it for 30 days free. Easy
to install AND remove.
