Since the Fed stopped short in its effort to break up our monopoly, you now
have the opportunity to pre-pay for favorable pricing on software we may or
may not deliver in the next two years...
More than 25 but hope it helps.

1. Upgrades options to Microsoft Applications (i.e. Microsoft Office) and
Servers (Windows 2000 Server) will be no longer available as of August 1,
2002. You have from now until July 31, 2002 to decide whether it is in your
companies best interest to put the Microsoft software that you are currently
invested into either Upgrade Advantage or Software Assurance. Please see
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing for details. Also, check with a reseller
to get a cost comparison of purchasing before July 31 and after. I can
recommend a reseller if that helps.
2. Office Small Business Edition (SBE) will no longer have upgrades.
Customers who wish to enroll their Office XP SBE license in Office Standard
Upgrade Advantage (UA) are eligible to do so, from Jan 1, 2002 - July 31,
2002. These customers in turn will be eligible for future releases of Office
Standard that are released during the term of their UA coverage. The
customer will be entitled to future releases of Office Standard, since they
are enrolled in Office Standard UA. This means they will be entitled to
Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook licenses. They would not be eligible to
future releases of Publisher as Publisher is not a component of Office
Standard. You can keep the version of Publisher that came with your copy of
Office SBE on your machine. You will just not qualify for upgrades to
Publisher automatically. When a customer with Office SBE enrolls in Office
Standard UA, the customer will be eligible for Office Standard Software
Assurance upon the expiration of their Office Standard UA. Contact me
directly if you have questions.
3. OEM and Full Package Product of Microsoft Office Application Software
does not allow for downgrade rights or network capabilities. You can
purchase Upgrade Advantage until July 31, 2002 which will give you these
capabilities if needed. OEM licenses are typically tied to the machine from
which it was preinstalled. The added benefit of purchasing Upgrade Advantage
on those application licenses is that the license becomes independent from
machine and can be transferred when machine replaced. It also includes the
right to stay current with two-year agreement. On August 1, 2002, you should
consider these factors before purchasing a new machine with Office
preinstalled. Upgrade Advantage or Software Assurance will not be options at
that point.
4. Windows XP OEM licenses can be downgraded no further than Windows 98
Second Edition, however the OEM does not have to supply the media. Under the
Volume Pricing Program Win XP can be downgraded to Win 95. OEM desktop
operating system software license* is tied to machine. Technical support is
ultimately OEM responsibility, and for original configuration only. The
customers have the right and tools to restore system back to original
configuration. Also, you have the right to ghost and reimage (WinXP OEM
license only). Again, there is no requirement for the OEM to supply media or
support. You must keep proof of license, as it is hard-copy EULA (End User
License Agreement) or COA (Certificate of Authenticity)
*Both the "product" and the "license" are tied to the machine; therefore,
the license is retired with the machine regardless of whether or not it had
been enrolled into Upgrade Advantage/Software Assurance. However, it is
permitted to apply the unused upgrade rights from old machines to their
replacements. If the upgrades under UA/SA had been previously applied to the
old machines, they cannot be then transferred to replacement machines.
5. Windows NT Server 4.0/Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Promotion: Microsoft is excited to announce a Windows Advanced Server
Software Assurance and Upgrade Advantage promotion to provide the easiest
and most economical path to upgrade from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2000
Advanced Server and to purchase Software Assurance for Windows 2000 Advanced
Server. This promotion is available today through July 31, 2002. Please see
this web site for details,
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/server/howtobuy/pricing/saua/overview.a
sp or contact me directly.
6. Windows NT 4.0 support no longer available in 2003! I would recommend
that your organizations start planning migrations for fall 2002 to have in
place by the turn of 2003. Upgrade Advantage is a great solution to cover
your licenses for future upgrades (2 years worth of upgrades from date of
purchase). Upgrade Advantage does not require that you install/deploy within
2 years. It just allows you the rights to any releases of newer versions of
the product within a 2 year period. There are no guarantees that Microsoft
will have upgrades within the 2 years, but we typically have an 18 - 24
month upgrade cycle on most products. Upgrade Advantage is only available
until July 31, 2002. The Microsoft® Windows NT® Server 4.0 family of
operating systems began entering the marketplace in September 1996. After
five years on the market-and with the increasing adoption of its successor,
the Windows® 2000 Server family of operating systems-Windows NT Server 4.0
is being retired in phases. This article describes the schedule for changes
in product availability and support,
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/ProductInfo/Availability/Retiring.asp
January 1, 2003 Beginning on this date, customers requesting non-security
QFEs will be charged a fee. (Premier customers should contact their Premier
Technical Account Manager for details on associated fees.)
January 1, 2004 Pay-per-incident and Premier support will no longer be
available. Non-security QFEs will no longer be available.
January 1, 2005 (or later) Online support will no longer be available.
7. Microsoft Content Management Server 2001: Microsoft Content Management
Server is the enterprise Web content management system that enables
businesses to quickly and cost-effectively deploy dynamic and personalized
e-business Web sites. It dramatically reduces the time required to build and
deploy these e-business applications and provides an enterprise scalable and
reliable solution. By empowering employees with the comprehensive
applications they need to be able to manage their own content, enterprises
benefit through increased productivity, stronger customer and partner
relationships, improved internal communication and increased revenue. Check
out this web site to see how you can get trial software,

8. Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 Limited Time Price Promotion:
