Order Header Comments

So far, BAQ reports are OK. They accurately dump the entire 4500+ memo field to the XML for Crystal. Good to know…… thanks.

Vic,
This is not as "good" a bug as it seems. Yes, it will save all of those extra characters, but many ODBC reports will crash or simply fail to start because of a length issue with that field. It will then require you to go into the DataDictionary to resize that field to its new maximum size.

Ran across a weird thing today. I'm on 8.03.409C and Progress. The Data
Dictionary says that OrderHed.OrderComment field is Type: Character and
Format is X(1000). This tells me that this field has a max of 1000
characters. That doesn't seem to be the case as I just pasted in 4500
characters (according to the Word-Count function in MSWord) into the field,
saved it and came back in to verify it did save all 4500 characters.

I'm not complaining because this is a good "bug" for us, but can anyone
explain this?

I've seen this before in SQL, they use VARCHAR(MAX) sometimes even though
the progress SCHEMA has a 1K limit. And Copy / Paste sometimes gets around
that.
