OT Lockdown

I'm assuming I need to study up on policies under Win 2003 server active
directory. I didn't know it could do that.

Paul,

If I understand your question correctly I would recommend using Group
Policies to lock down the Win2K and XP desktops to the user. We use this for
our plant floor workstations. They can only access the data collection short
cut on the desktop and that's it...everything else is disabled.

I am not sure if I have ever seen an answer to this but is it possible to run an "export" in RB directly from a Vantage menu? I have cheated a few times and printed to "file" but I now have one where the formatting is super critical and only Export will handle it correctly. I would rathter the user not have to go into "raw" RB to select the Export option under Print. The file name will be constant but the date range in the filter will need to be changed each week (dumping payroll hours to Paychex).

Or...is there any way with a command line or .p routine to activate RB and do the export while also giving the filter change window?

Thanks,

You can create a .P or .W application that prompts the user for the date range and execute RB to dump to a file fairly easy.

Todd,

I can throw something together for you. Should only take 15 min or
so.

I'll need to know all the entries for the report filter (a screen
snapshot will do), along with the PRL and path, and the report name.

Glad to help,
Lonnie

That would be great. I will send off-list. All I need is a starting point or example of the code.

Paul,

I use Fortress 101 by Fortress Grand Corporation.

I have had very good luck with the product and run it on every PC on the
shop floor.

Hi Paul,

Just in case you didn't know, you have the ability to do this for free
if you have a Window 2000 or 2003 domain and these computers connect to
that domain.

It requires a bit of work to plan and test but you can use Group
Policies.

MS has a pretty cool console to help manage GPOs. (this console can only
run from XP or 2003 but I believe it manages a 2000 and 2003 domain.)

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/gpmc/default.mspx

On top of that MS has a package called "Group Policy Common Scenarios"
that is designed to work with the above console to load predefined GPOs
for common scenarios.

These templates can be tweak to get just them just right for you.

https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=354b9f45-8aa6-
4775-9208-c681a7043292&displaylang=en

I use GPOs here and I will be modifying one of the templates to control
our MES computers.

Again, it does require more work on your part and if you haven't used
GPOs before there will be a learning curve but the price is right! :-)

I think all the third party products do is make interacting with GPOs
and Local Policies easier.

Hi Michael,

I am not familiar with the .p .w file types and how to create them.

I would also like to know if it is possible to have these file types

Run from the plant floor module?

Thanks in advance,
