We have multiple machines that can do the same item however the raw material is different in nature.
We cut 1/2 dowels from bar stock plus we have coiled 1/2 material of same specs that we cut on a straight and cut machine. So we stock SD50P, 1/2 dowel material in sticks, and we stock SD50P-COIL which is the same material in a coil. How can we trace usage all through 1 part only while maintaining the separation of parts? So we can issue material to jobs per operation and machine but also get all the demand for 1/2 dowel to show up at the main part so we know overall we need x amount of #'s?
Create a Material Analysis code for them and then assign that to both parts.
thats in project management correct? never messed around in there. i thought it was more for quotes and projects not for pricing and consumption??
so to do this, you have two different machines (resources) and two different base materials (Coil and sticks)… when you buy the coil, it is a different part number than the sticks (I am assuming this since it is how many people do this).
You can create a revision with a primary method (the most common method) and then create an ALTERNATE METHOD (not a different REVISION) and the alternate would call out the second machine and the second material instead of the primary.
Now when creating the job, you would choose which alternate method you want to use.. the primary or the alternate.
Starting in Kinetic 2025.1, we added a feature to MRP that will automatically choose the alternate method if the part is “urgent” (inside the lead time).
The reason that these two methods are the same REVISION is because the resulting finished part is the same revision.. it is just a different way to make that revision, making it an “alternate method”. Note that this might affect the COST (higher material, less expensive setup on the machine, etc).
We are doing Alt Method’s now, my guys just found this a few weeks back. My main question is on driving the demand. Right now I have 141,000 lbs of demand on Rebar #4. I have 81,000lbs of Rebar #4 in stick and 42,000lbs of Rebar #4 in coil. Is there a way to know this so we know we have this much demand on #4 rebar (stick and coil). I know once we have the jobs in place they can all be placed on 1 method or the other but until the job runs we just know we need rebar.
No, it is on the part record. The field is intended for reporting. Using the Head/Asm and Material Analysis fields allows you to get more information about lower level parts when they are buried in jobs. So, you could run a report that says, how many pounds of #4 rebar have we used. Since you tagged all materials that are considered #4 rebar with the Material Analysis, you can get a better view of your usage.
ah ok that makes more sense now. i see what how you can use that to group
