Part description search

We have a similar problem using AND with 2 wildcards.

For example we have parts with the description of 'Outer Formed Panels' of
various sizes/colours etc.

In previous versions of E9 (9.04 & 9.05.606A) we were able to search using
OUT* FORM* which returned a load of records, however since moving to
9.05.700B2 this no longer works. This is definitely the case as we still
have 9.05.606A on one of our test servers.

Any suggestions?

The main problem is because users expect results with 2 wildcards, if the
search returns nothing they assume there are no records, when it is the
search that is no longer working as it did.

Thanks,

Darryn

Thanks Mark,

I have it working now, but I was perplexed by the AND OR options.

I enter "alum 6500" on one line and I get all the aluminium that has 6500 in
the description. But if I put the same thing on 2 lines finds nothing.

It seems to need at least two words on the second line to work. So "alum
6500" on line one and "post red" on line two give correct OR results, but
"alum 6500" on line one and "post" on line two finds nothing. But reverse
the order ("post" on line one and "alum 6500" on line two) and it works.

Thanks for the tip. It is most useful.

In Epicor 9.05.700C there is a Part Description box in the basic part search screen headed "Where part description contains..." that seems to invite entry of a portion of a description to filter search results.

Does anyone know how this works? I can get nothing from it at all. In the engineering section of the Engineering Workbench as similar feature works brilliantly.

If you're SQL you need to turn on full text search in SQL - it's in the install manuals as a post install. If you're SQL2008 you don't need to create the directories first because the catalogs are now stored in the database (the other scripts and incremental update setup are still needed).

We just enabled this again but are re-evaluating how often we update the catalogs. We saw a couple SQL locks the first day we had it enabled when edit lists were running. I could tell the catalog update was hung too. I will probably only update the catalogs once a day after hours as a caution for now.

Yes, we get nothing if we enter after the first line and put nothing on the second.

And if a comma is in the middle of the text we get an error.
