Payroll in a new company

Perhaps not.........but you can create a deduction for the offset (set up a
G/L number for this).
Good luck with the new venture.
Have you contacted Support for ideas?

Starting over sounding any easier/cleaner yet?

I don't think you can go below zero for a check.

Actually, the old company will issue them a W2 out of the old database and
the new company a second W2 out of the new (copied) database. The last
thing we thought of was to run a "dummy' payroll for let's say 1 hour for
each employee with earnings and deductions equal to the negative value of
their YTD numbers.

Does that sound like it would work?

I have an unusual situation with a company using Vantage and the payroll
module being purchasedby another company. This new company will continue to
use the old company's Vantage database. Employees were essentially
terminated by the old company and simultaneously hired by the new one.

Using the same Vantage (ver 6.1) database and changing the bank info we can
naturally cut checks to all employees with little trouble. What I can't
figure out how to do is have these checks from the new company start out
with zero for YTD earnings, etc..

I know I could just duplicate every emploee record in the database with a
new employee ID number but that's an awful lot of work and would also
require making everyone a new employee barcoded badge to use for data
collection.

Someone threw out a thought about using a different G/L account but I'm not
enough of an accountant to figure out if that makes sense or even how I
would go about doing it. Anyone have any ideas?

Greg
Greg, If I understand you correctly all you are going to do is change the
company name/ID in the company configuration, but you want to start the
employees over and issue two W2's at year end? I don't see any other way
than entering everyone as a 'new' employee. (Essentially what they are)

Your W2 electronic file from Vantage will be a mess at year end. (unusable)
I would take a copy of the database now so you can print W2's from the old
company in January (or now), then scrap the duplicates from the new company
(old employee numbers) when they print. To further complicate things Vantage
will not allow you to enter a duplicate SS number so you will have to go
through and change them in the old employee numbers first.

You weren't doing anything on your evenings and weekends anyway......
