Portal Request failed! Reason: Portal responded: 500

For those who have this problem I was able to resolve this by disabling a loopback specifically for the portal site. Here's how: http://www.quantumofgeek.com/2010/02/401-error-when-accessing-an-iis-site-from-the-server/

If I change it manually to the public IP instead of the internal IP the data does not display however the links for one of the menus that still works in this manner will create a spreadsheet in the format you want with the snapshot of the actual correct data. Is there some permission issue I missed here?

Portal Request failed! Reason: Portal responded: 500 Body:<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><soap:Envelope xmlns:soap:=http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/ xmlns:xsi=http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/XMLSchema"><soap:Body><soap:Fault><faultcode>soap:Server</faultcode><faultstring>Server was unable to process request. ---> The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. </faultstring><detail/></soap:Body></soap:Envelope>

I get this when trying to create a web part with my public IP. I have access to the Epicor Portal via outside & to the sharepoint via outside. The Epicor Chart works fine connected to public IP.

If I setup with the internal IP the web part does display the data to the outside world but non of the links from the pop up menus associated with that web part link to any outside IP. If I change it manually to the public IP instead of the internal IP the data does not display however the links for one of the menus that still works in this manner will create a spreadsheet in the format you want with the snapshot of the actual correct data. Is there some permission issue I missed here?
