Printing Edge Agent (Network?)

Our implementation guy crammed 5 trainings down my throat in 1 month, 2 years before we went live. All recordings have expired.

During implementation with that team everyone has been using the print preview, we love our PDFs for everything anyhow. However now I get regular requests to install the Edge Agent on end user computers because they want to print. Really they want to PDF but they are so used to hitting the printer icon and selecting Adobe PDF.

One of the things we were trained on 2 years ago was setting up the Edge Agent for printing in our primary location. I remember it being pretty straight forward, but now without useful documentation (the help files seem to leave out some details) I am struggling to figure out what help files to follow? I remember needing to install some form of Edge agent on my local network, and somehow that communicated back to Kinetic and I could present printers that were connected to that edge agent client. I am struggling to find where to start or basic steps to accomplish, so before I start and Implementation meeting over again can someone show me where to get started?

Are you thinking Network EA or Client EA on the users’ computers?

Install documents is in the sys Admin guide…

Simply if the edge agent is installed your print button on reports should be enabled.

For Cloud customers the network version allows the bridging of network printers (in printer maintenance) to be used.

We tested Network EA but went with Client EA as it does what the users wanted: Click on the Printer icon and select their local printers.

Note: We’ve found Job Travelers MUST be previewed then printed as printing direct can cause extra blank pages between sections of the job trav.

We’ve got both…Client Edge at the user level, Network Edge to help direct traffic from some shipping-related BPMs. We’ve had some recent random issues with NEA though…restart of the network service usually gets it back flowing again. Anything similar at the client level…reboot.

That’s interesting.. are there exactly one extra blank page for every real page? or an in the middle number?

You should be able to normalize the job traveler to print the same on both paths..

My gut feeling that the rdl of the traveller is not the right paper size for the printer (possible a margin wrong) , preview is going to scale the report to the right page size so it appears it prints correctly.

I have also seen changing the dimensions on the network printer settings will also make blank pages appear.

No it’s random depending on the data in the job, number of Ops, Mtls, etc. The base SSRS does the same thing but yeah, probably could figure it out with enough time but Print Preview works for now and since our prod control user is doing all the Mass Print (and no way to ‘reprint’ once printed) this works for the user to verify before sending the job to the physical printer.
