Problem with e-mail from vista

Stu,

This could be from a few things, all relating to an SMTP setting.

1) Check in the .mfgsys file that you are using for the smtpserver
value,

2) The SMTP server name does not allow for relaying OR

3) You misspelled the name. usually a minor typo

Also, if the servername doesn't work for you, you could always try to
put the IP address in it's place.

Subject: [Vantage] problem with e-mail from vista

Has anyone experienced the following?
When trying to e-mail a record from any screen in vista, I get the
message "could not access CDO.Message object". This only occurs on
client workstations. When logged into the server, e-mail works fine.
Epicor support has not come up with a solution yet. Any input would be
appreciated.

Doesn't seem they are looking very hard. Here is the response I got
when opening a ticket on the same error 6 months ago. Hope this helps.

Summary: Could not access CDO.Message Object
Book: Support Solutions

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Getting error trying to send email from within the 8.x program and I
have already implemented the information in kbase doc 5240MPS.
What's wrong?

Error Detail
================
Could not access CDO.Message Object

There are several errors that appear to be the same, the difference is
in the Inner Exception. Here are three examples of different Inner
Exceptions.

1.) Error -
Inner Exception
===============
The message could not be sent to the SMTP server. The transport error
code was 0x80070057. The server response was not available

Reason - There is no server name in the SmtpServer Value. You have
not
implemented the server name in the .mfgsys file or you edited
the .mfgsys file on the server, but did not copy it to the client.

2.) Error -
Inner Exception
===============
The sever rejected one or more recipient addresses. The server
response
was: 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for name@....

Reason - You have entered a SMTP server name that does not allow for
relaying.

3.) Error -
Inner Exception
===============
The transport failed to connect to the server.

Reason - You have misspelled the name of the server. Usually a minor
typo. (i.e. Server name is myServer, but you entered myServer1.)
======================================================================
=

* Note - If the server name does not work, you can try the IP address
of the server instead.

Could not access CDO Message object error when sending email 5240MPS

Edit each <database>.mfgsys file to specify the smtp server

( On server) ...\epicor\mfgsys80\client\config -or-
( On server) ...\epicor\mfgsys803\client\config

( On client) ...\epicor\client80\client\config -or-
( On client) ...\epicor\client803\client\config

Example of where to edit mfgsys file
===============================
default.mfgsys open and edit the following ...
<userSettings>
...
<SmtpServer value="yourSmtpServer.com" /> ...
</userSettings>
....

fill in the value appropriate for your smtp server

replace "yourSmtpServer.com" with your DNS name of your SMTP server
in quotes In some cases using the IP address of you server might be
needed instead of the server name. (eg. 10.200.10.24)

Example of edit value
==================

<SmtpServer value="smtp.acme.com" />

Log out of V800 and back in to test this.

* Note - If the server name does not work, you can try the IP address
of the server instead.

Next,
Make a file association
====================
Before you can use the attachment, you need to make a file
association.
The .mfgsys file extension needs to open with Mfgsys.exe. If you
double click on the attachment and there isn't a current association,
Windows will prompt you to choose what program to use. You need to
browse to the Mfgsys.exe file found in the 8.0 client folder on the
local machine.
