We recently did a Dump and Load and it actually INCREASED the size of our DB. Not what we were expecting.

Dump and load. Sucks, but should be done at minimum once per year. This will decrease the size of your database and improve performance. Contact support for the exact instructions for your version of the DB.

All,

I'm looking to see if anyone knows if there is a standard amount of time to keep your data before you purge your database.

Over the past year or so we have noticed that our performance has deteriorated.

Our server is 7 years old and our database size is 11Gig. We are currently running Vantage 6.1 and hopefully will be upgrading to Epicor 9 within the year, but there is no guarantee of that.

We recently did a D&L on a 11GB DB and it took in the region of 6-8 hours to complete.

Dump and load is taking your database offline and literally doing a UTF-8 dump to files. And then you load those files back into an empty database.

Time it takes depends on the version you are running, BPM’s you have in place, etc. We are on epicor 9.05 and for a 7-8 gig database it takes about 16 hours to complete the process. When completed our DB is around 4.8 gig in size.

Problem with Progress is that it has no way built into it to “defrag” itself. Only way to do it is dump the database and then load it back into an empty database.

What does a dump and load consist of? I have heard of it on here
before...but never paid attention till now, since we are now live.

We to had to the same situation with *very* large IM and IntQueXX tables. We were at one time using the Multi-Company and since we were no longer the records were just sitting instead of getting processed. We had to (1) take out Multi-Company (I don't remember the steps but Epicor walked me through quickly) and (2) they custom wrote something for me to clear out those tables. It took weeks for them to finally get it to me but worked well once I ran it. Unfortunately I believe that it had an expiry of some sort hard-coded into it.

Thanks. I know I can delete the records in there if I want to. But, will I hurt anything if I do it though?
