Question - Setting up another company

On a first guess, I would say there are only a couple hundred parts that we
need to move over.

Hello,

My company is in the process of setting up another company in our database
for a new facility. All of the parts made at this new facility were at one
point made here, so we have the part master files and the methods set up.

My question is: Is there a way to copy over SOME of the part files
(manufactured and purchased) from our current company over to the new
company? Setting up all the part files again would take forever, and so
far, Epicor has told us we can only copy over the entire set of files. Is
it possible even to just make backups of the part files, cost adjustments,
etc. and load this backup into the new company?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Is it the same database?

If it is a different database you could do a Progress unload/load of the
effected tables

Same database - multiple company. Sometimes I think it would have been
easier to set up another whole database!

Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie,

If you have the ProVision tool and if you take your time and think through
what tables you need ... yes this can be done.

You can export the tables ... import them into access ... mass change the
company ID ... delete the records you don't want ... and then import the
tables back into your existing DB under the different company ID.

I've did this about 2 years ago and it can be done. Do I even need to say -
TEST TEST TEST TEST and backup your DB before you do this ?

The operative word in your email is "SOME" ... would there be any logical
pattern to that statement ?

Note that if you export / import the tables you need into access and then
link them when you delete the items the routings, etc will go with them.

It took me about 40 hours to figure this out and do it over the course of
several weeks. Keying in the items and routings from scratch would have
taken 800-1000 hours.

If you would like to chat about this give me a call ...

How many parts are we talking about, if there are thousands then it would
most likely be worth someone writing a small program that says something
like for all parts eq to these part classes or product create a new record
with this company. This would not be hard at all.
