Re-purposing QuoteDtl.Linked field?

Greetings! I’m weighing using the QuoteDtl.Linked checkbox for something unrelated to Inter-Company POs instead of making a UD field. It’s description is “Indicates if this quote line is linked to an inter-company PO line.”

Since we’re a single-company implementation, does this checkbox affect the program’s behavior at all? When is it referenced?

Hi Mike, I’d recommend adding a UD checkbox field instead. So many times when I, or a client, has used a field or functionality for sometime it wasn’t intended for, it came back to bite us. Just think of your future self (or successor) saying “why did I do that?” when it’s so easy to add a UD field.

You may be single-company now, but who knows what the future holds. There’s no point handcuffing yourself now.
UD Fields are easy to add and you can be certain that your field will not influence other business processes within the application.

This is a good point, and I do try to not design myself into a corner. There are no shortcuts! UD field it is.
Thanks for your suggestion Jeff & Michael.

Yea… as others have said: Dont do it.
Rule 1: Never repurpose any field, ESPECIALLY if that field does something, even if the “something” it does is something you don’t currently need. It might be needed later.
Rule 2: Even if the field is a “useless field” that doesn’t do anything today: See Rule #1. Epicor might later add functionality to that field later that could cause you greif.

Rule 3: If the field is “useless today”… it could get eliminated in a future update… and there goes your hijacked column!
