Remote facility

Troy,

Keep in mind that weather usually plays a role in wireless connections
involving line-of-sight connections. Unlike cell phones, the signal is very
focused and rain or snow can severely affect the signal strength and
clarity.
Get your sales rep to give you contact names of other customers in your area
and talk to them about how the weather impacts their connectivity.

"Around half" answers the question close enough -- as does Todd's
response. I'm comparing those costs with a $6,000 wireless setup with no
monthly costs. About one to two years of use looks like would pay for the
wireless -- if we can get a line of site in hilly rural PA.

I think it's just over half. Not positive, though, I would have to look
up
and old bill, I can probably do that sometime before the end of the week
and
get back to you.

Sarah,
Would you say that the T1 portion is at least half or more of the $850
average?

Out total bill to our vendor varies month-to-month, because in
addition to
our T1 line, they also manage out lines, provide full support and
provide
our phone lines and fax lines. The total bill for the past 8 months
has
averaged about $850 per month.

I cannot comment on the PCAnywhere route, since we never used that
method.
We, also, have another plant about 15 miles away. They are

Vantage
off of a Terminal Server here. We have a terminal server and also

Terminals.
Response Time is excellent and we have had very few problems with
the
terminal server/citrix route.

I would like to get some opinions from those of you who have "been
there / done that".
We have a remote plant (14 miles) that we need to tie into our LAN,
primarily to access Vantage. Probably two users and one data
collection station remotely.
I am trying to weigh the options of a PCAnywhere/VNC type connection
against going the Terminal Services route. Currently, we are running
a single NT4 Server with 56K dialup access - looking to expand to at
least a 192K DSL at both ends, and Vantage ver. 3.0 with hopes to
upgrade to 5.0 sometime soon.
What are the benefits or disadvantages of either route? Any comments
would be appreciated.

I cannot comment on the PCAnywhere route, since we never used that method.

Sarah,
What do you pay for a T1 line like that per month?

Troy,

We have a T-1 across town - 10 miles. Fee per month is about $ 550 ... but
only because the facility is across the "Line". As in, our main facility is
in the local Ameritech zone and the other facility is 1.5 miles inside
Verizon's zone ( was GTE ) .

If both facilities were in the same zone I would expect to pay about $
250-$350/month on a 3 yr contract.
