Returning Raw Materials to Stock

Thanks to everyone for their input on this topic.
We have decided to use a Negative Issue to Mfg for the following
reasons:
* Neg. Issues to Mfg deducts Qty used on Job and returns to stock
* Salvage Mtl returns Qty to stock but issued Qty remains the
same.
* Neg Issues to Mfg is better for recording part used rolls of
material
* Salvage Material is better for calculating waste quantities.

Thanks again for your help
Sophie

I would be vary grateful for you views on how to return material from a
job back to stock.

We use rolls of plastic material, weighing 150Kg on average.
It can happen that the last roll issued to a job is not completely used
up.

We would like to show this material moving from the job back into stock.
Does anybody else using Vantage have to do anything similar?
If so what method would you recommend?

All suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Sophie
Sophie-

Use issue to manufacturing and use a negative number. Moves cost and qty
from job to inventory.

Sophie,

The way we return material back to stock at our facility is through Job
Adjustment with a negative value and add it to stock through quantity
adjustment using notes in the reference line.

We use the salvage function under "Receipts from Mfg". Under "Receive" you
can receive an assembly or salvaged material. It then removes the salvage
cost from the job and receives it to inventory.

I hope this works for you.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
We return material from jobs to stock daily. Use Inventory
Management, General Operations, Receipts from Manufacturing (we're
still on 3.00). Under Receive you will find Salvaged Material. This
handles the situation well.

Also, if you are returning partial rolls to inventory, you might want
to consider using dimensional inventory (if you aren't already). We
are a steel plate fabricator. Our inventory unit of measure is
pounds, but using dimensional inventory we track each piece of plate
by its size. It's not completely clean (what is?) but it works
fairly well. I'm sure you could use a variation of this to track
partial rolls.

Good luck!

We use Materials Management>Inventory Management>General Operations>Receipts
From Manufacturing. Seems to do what it says.
