Revision level not available one parts go into stock - Vantage 8

And just so you all know up through version 10 the system does not inventory by revision.  Julie’s method has been the only easy way some of us have seen around this issue.

Mike,

We switched to a system using the rev number as part of the part number,  and  every time the revision changes it becomes a new P/N in the system.

We also use the Vendor/Customer P/N fields to show the P/N without the “–REV-x” where necessary to keep things clear and match their PO/CO.

We went around and around about implementing this change, but after using the system that way for a couple of  years, we see the benefits on a day-to-day basis.  We no longer find ourselves using

a part down level without making the conscious decision to do so.  We can have inventory and use multiple rev levels of parts and since they are identified differently, we know how much of each is in stock.

We don’t have the issues like we used to of using the wrong rev level or not being able to track when the change was implemented.  I’m sure there are other ways to accomplish this, but that is how we successfully

solved the problem here.

Good luck!

Was wondering what some of you do to handle different revisions of a part number that may be in stock?   Looking in the partbin table, Vantage doesn’t keep track of what revision of the part is in the bin location.  It does keep the Lot Number (which we use) but what is the best practice for handling other parts that may be revision controlled but not have lot numbers?  How do you keep track as to what is in inventory.  Is this also how it works in Epicor 9?

I don’t think its possible to keep track of revisions if the part is not lot controlled…. Unless you make the part revision part of the part number.
