I am looking for a way to direct sales revenues to different GL accounts
based on type of customer. Using Customer Groups and Sales Categories
only allows you to change the department segment value of the account
and not the natural account. Without having to set up a control account
for every customer has anyone else had to deal with this and if so how
did you handle it?

Try using the AR account module which can then be assigned to each
customer.

We've found that the Customer Group is just a good report sorting
feature, but no real GL impact.

Thanks~

I have that situation and I dealt with it outside Vista/Vantage. I download a BAQ with the information including customer groups and sales categories. In Access, I take that data and create a reclassification JE. This JE reverses each item in the GL and puts it into the correct account. For auditability, I reference the original GL entry. The entry is created day by day, so the original entry and its offset both occur on the same day. I have a similar breakout for cost of sales, so those items get entries, too. As you might imagine, this can be a massive JE. So, I also create a download file for each day, and copy/paste them into the journal entry sheet in Vista/Vantage.

There is a lot of work involved Normally, I would be happy to share the work I have done. However, this database is pretty specific to how we do things, and probably would not translate well to others. I can answer any questions you have, though.

Yes, I was hoping not to have to set up on each customer. The Sales Category tied to the Customer Group will work, but you must have a Product Group set up as well. When the Customer Group is on the Sales Order, it looks at the Sales Category department segment and then overrides that segment agains the product group GL account. Don't know why they couldnt set it up just to allow different GL accounts against Sales Categories!

Thanks for the input. If we need to go outside and come back in to update the data I'll let you know. Which there was an easier way!
