Security for Job Closing, but allow Job Completion 8.03.404b

BPM's can also use membership or non-membership within a security group as a
condition.

Hi,

Wondering if someone could let me know if there is a way to secure out
users from Job Closing, but allow them to Complete jobs. I'm sure
there is a way, but not sure how to use the field security.

Thank you,

The way I did it was to remove the Closed check box from the Job Closing/Completion form. I also have a separate version of the form that has the Complete check box disabled. Only people who are allowed to complete but not close a job are given access to the first form. Only people who are allowed to close but not complete a job are given access to the second form.

Chris,
Thanks, but I already have this security set up, but this will give
permission to COMPLETE AND CLOSE. I wanted to just give them
permission to COMPLETE only and not have permission to CLOSE the jobs.

Thom,
I will try what you have done by creating another dashboard
form.

Gosh, just seems like there should be an easier way!

Thank you guys for the information.

I am not sure if this has changed on newer versions, but back here on
5.2, you can do this very easily in the standard Menu Security
Maintenance.

There are TWO different aspects to security for Job Closing on 5.2,
under 'Menu security maintenance'.

There is the high-level which allows access to the function. You would
give everyone who needed to COMPLETE and CLOSE acess tot his.
Access to: Production Management\Job Management\General Operations\Job
Closing

Then there is the specific 'Close job' security. You would only give
access to the people you want to be able to CLOSE the jobs. You have to
continue to drill down under "Job Closing" to get the 'Close job"
sub-security.
Access to: Production Management\Job Management\General Operations\Job
Closing\Close Job

Again, this is 5.2, so I do not know if it changed on newer versions.

Yep, it's gone. Menu security only has the menu access function.
Everything else is controlled by a BPM or customization.

I am in the process of learning menu security for 8.03.xxx and I am
wondering if this would be contained in "Field Security"? There is a
table called Job Closing Code and when you drill down deeper there
are fields for Job Closing and Job Completion. If this does not
control the security, what would this be used for?

Be very careful when using field level security. Not only will it prevent the user from changing the field value, but it will also prevent Vantage from updating the field. I found this out when I set field security for rep commission rates on the sales order form. Vantage didn't assign any commissions on sales orders that were created by anyone who wasn't allowed to update or see the field. We had some upset reps that month.

The modified form method is probably the best and safest way to go. You could also try Process security bo.jobclosing but I don't know how you would distinguish between closing and complete. I never messed with this process.

I have to agree. You can use a BPM with the user ID for control, but
that gets hairy when you change users. The best and easiest way is to
use a versions of the form for each type of security. Job Completers
(Custom Form JC1), Job Closers (Custom Form JC2) and both (Std Form).
Then menu security handles everything and user groups can control it as
well.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this as it is not really
explained well in the help documentation.

I'm researching tightening some security for our company I've been looking at the security IDs. The security ID for job closing/completion is SEC194. When looking at the security ID table I found there is a security code SEC194-001 for close job. Does anyone know if I am asking for trouble using the setting for SEC194-001 to limit who can close jobs? I found some advantages setting security with the security IDs such as it automatically controls who can right-click into a program but what are some problems I may have using this approach?
