Bill,

Darryn’s suggestion is right on target. If you set up security groups for
each role and give the menu access to the roles, it then becomes much easier
to set up new users (as well as change a user’s security when they change to
a different job in the company).

A user can be assigned multiple security groups. For example, in accounting
you might have an AR clerk and an Accounting manager. Maybe you want both
the clerk and the manager to be able to enter payments from customers, but
only the manager to set up new customers. You set up an ARCLERK security
group with access to enter payments, and an ARMGR security group with access
to Customer Maint. The clerk gets only the ARCLERK security group and the
manager gets both ARCLERK and ARMGR.

I created a couple of spreadsheet tools for setting up and managing security
that I’ve shared with the group in the past. Nothing fancy; just something
to help get a little more control over user security. Let me know if you’d
like me to send them to you.

Regards,

Jeff

Hi Bill,

We get round this by linking security groups to the menu items and then
linking users to security groups. That way we only have to link a new user
to the relevant groups.

Darryn

I have had several people leave and get replaced.

It's a PITA to do the security each time.

Is there a way to copy a user's security to another user?

Bill, you need to use a BAM on the particular table you want. Set it for the table and fields you want to  monitor then click on track changes

You will be able to view then in the change log each of the changes by user, data, field, time etc

BPMs have an option to log the change.  In the change log you will see the user name, time, field, and the value before -> after

You can see who changed the cost by looking at the Part Transaction History.  The transaction type is ADJ-CST.

User ID is displayed in the Transaction history.

Has your transaction history been modified?Â

I did a personalization and have User Id as the first field that is displayed, then system date and transaction date.

I have had several people leave and get replaced.

It's a PITA to do the security each time.

Is there a way to copy a user's security to another user?

Hi Bill,

We get round this by linking security groups to the menu items and then
linking users to security groups. That way we only have to link a new user
to the relevant groups.

Darryn

Bill,

DarrynÂ’s suggestion is right on target. If you set up security groups for
each role and give the menu access to the roles, it then becomes much easier
to set up new users (as well as change a userÂ’s security when they change to
a different job in the company).

I created a couple of spreadsheet tools for setting up and managing security
that IÂ’ve shared with the group in the past. Nothing fancy; just something
to help get a little more control over user security. Let me know if youÂ’d
like me to send them to you.

Regards,

Jeff
