Chris said it all perfectly.
I'd like to underscore his "time to dedicate" comment. It's unlike any
other programming interface I've seen in my career. It's a powerful tool
and with that comes a steep learning curve.
I never did learn it just because of that learning curve; it humbles you.
I've been told that folks without much programming knowledge pick it up
easier than others who may have extensive coding in their background.
I have ultimately abandoned SC and carefully wrote SQL stored proc's and
triggers to do what I needed Service Connect to do. I've been using SQL
varieties for 20+ years, so it's like riding a bike for me. To me, Service
Connect is like landing the space shuttle with one arm tied behind your back
while someone sprays salt water in your eyes and shouts Russian expletives
at you.

It is best if it is on a dedicated server for resource purposes. It is great
for complex imports, data and process automation and for integrating 3rd
party products. It is great for exporting data as well. The cons are it
takes a while to learn the product. To use it you really need to know the
tables, fields, and the business objects and methods. You also have to have
to learn how to read trace files. Service Connect is a great tool as long as
you have the time to dedicate to developing the workflows and learning the
product.

We are considering getting service connect.
for those who have it already, what are the pros and cons of it?
