Is there a linux version of service connect? I am just curious.

I had a similar problem.

It turned out that I wasn't using the latest version of WS-Configuration.

Once I copied the latest WS-Configuration files (Including MfgSrvsPckg.zip / ICSharptCode.SharpZipLib.dll) from the Progress server machine to my service connect / information worker server, it worked.

In service connect, is there a way to take the above child data, and
concatenate it in some way so that I don't have to loop through the
nodes in a sub-workflow? I want to join the 3 child nodes together into
a single field in my order header.

I'm developing a SC to import BOMs. PartService works great. I can create the top level assembly and revision without fail. I'm having problems with the EngWorkBenchService. When I try to create a new ECO SC fails with "Invalid User ID or Password".

I _can_ create and process ECOs from within Epicor itself. I'm not sure what user or password is invalid.

Help?
Likely you need to reimport your web service in Service Connect and use
a valid user name and password for Vantage

Hi,

I saw that Service Connect is installed on a Vantage Server here.
The people who would have installed this are long gone.
When I tried to launch the the workflow designer, it asked for a password.
Is there a default password or a way to reset it?
Wondering how old this version be - 8.1.0.3250, if it will work.

Thanks

And, if you have this version and have a current maintenance plan, you
can probably get a newer version downloaded from Epicor site.

Flynt,

I'd recommend you check to make sure you're connecting to the correct
database. It sounds as if the app servers are down, perhaps the web
services is pointing to something you're not expecting. Open up the web
services configuration, check with server/port you're connecting to. My
guess is that the one that it's actually trying to use is down.

It turned out that the problem was that PARTSERVICE was not imported/installed in the database we were using under WEBSERVICES. Also the MANAGER password had to be changed in Service Connect because it was using its original login credentials that was used when it was installed. Something to keep in mind when changing the MANAGER password.

Thanks for the help.

We are considering getting service connect.

for those who have it already, what are the pros and cons of it?
It is best if it is on a dedicated server for resource purposes. It is great for complex imports, data and process automation and for integrating 3rd party products. It is great for exporting data as well. The cons are it takes a while to learn the product. To use it you really need to know the tables, fields, and the business objects and methods. You also have to have to learn how to read trace files. Service Connect is a great tool as long as you have the time to dedicate to developing the workflows and learning the product.

Chris said it all perfectly.

I'd like to underscore his "time to dedicate" comment. It's unlike any
other programming interface I've seen in my career. It's a powerful tool
and with that comes a steep learning curve.

I never did learn it just because of that learning curve; it humbles you.
I've been told that folks without much programming knowledge pick it up
easier than others who may have extensive coding in their background.

I have ultimately abandoned SC and carefully wrote SQL stored proc's and
triggers to do what I needed Service Connect to do. I've been using SQL
varieties for 20+ years, so it's like riding a bike for me. To me, Service
Connect is like landing the space shuttle with one arm tied behind your back
while someone sprays salt water in your eyes and shouts Russian expletives
at you.

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
What are you planning to do with it?

Service connect is basically a workflow tool that allows you to stitch together business logic in a series of I/O to create custom solutions.

Pros: useful for processing repetitive data entry routines, importing/exporting data, integrating data with other products

Cons: steep learning curve/fairly complex, little documentation, cumbersome task monitor and error processing, not very user-friendly, the educational resources are really light (you will have to dig in and make it happen, or hire someone)

I know a number of people who purchased it and never use it. Mostly because of the items I listed in the Cons.

However, if you can get through the complexity of it, and understand the business logic / method implementation AND XML piece of it, it can be quite useful and powerful. It has been a useful tool for me.

A final note: there are often other ways to accomplish the same thing instead of using Service Connect. You can use the DMT solution for data updates, or advanced BPM's, customizations, etc.

HTH,
Ross
For now we are thinking of using it for:

Have our suppliers load a csv files with all of their promise dates to our POs to our ftp site. Then have service connect read that file and automatically load promise dates and comments to each PO.
We have over 2,000 PO releases open at any given time.

When a new blue print (or other document) is received from the customer, we save those in a specific folder in our server based on part number. We want service connect to notify us when a new drawing is added to the server, where the revision does not match the partrev.revisionnum field for the approved revision for that part number. Also automatically email our vendors that need that document, the latest revision.

What other helpful processes has anyone done with service connect?

Ross

WE use Service Connect for:
Sales order imports
Mass customer, Ship To, and Part updates
Create RMA's from a csv file
Import EDI orders via an XML file from our VAN
Mass part adjustments
Mass part transfers
Create new parts
Create new internal part cross references

I/we use it quite a bit...

We want service connect to notify us when a new drawing is added to the server, where the revision does not match the partrev.revisionnum field for the approved revision for that part number. Also automatically email our vendors that need that document, the latest revision.
