Simple material backflush question

We have a material on a BOM that should be setup to backflush and it’s not, so I opened the part in Eng Workbench to associate the part to get backflushed at the proper operation, but I don’t see a backflush checkbox in Engineering Workbench but I do see backflush in Part Maintenance. This has me scratching my head as I would think this checkbox would need to be in Engineering workbench to give the granularity to choose if a part backflushes on some BOMs but not others… Maybe I’m confusing myself with Job Entry but I thought on a BOM you could specify a material to backflush on a certain operation but I’m not seeing how to do this in Eng Workbench…

Edit I just associated the materials in Eng Workbench to the operation we want the material backflushed at and created a test job and the material is backflushing at the operation I associated the material to. Can someone confirm that by associating a material on a BOM in Eng Workbench to an operation that is how we set the material to backflush(seems to be the case but want to make sure I’m not missing something)?

nope…

  1. the backflush flag in the Part is what controls if the material is backflushed.
  2. the JOB allows you to override it, but only after it is a job.
  3. if you engineer a part before it is marked as backflushed, but then change it in the part, the next job you create will have the part backflushed.
  4. associating the part to an operation DOES make it so that it backflushes when the operation is marked complete. but this is only for the timing of the backflush. All materials should always be associated to an operation.

Thanks @timshuwy!

If a part is set to backflush and not associated with an operation(Eng Workbench), if we create a job, on the job the backflush flag is not checked. Does that mean it won’t backflush the material in that scenario?

if the backflush flag is not set on the job, then it will not backflush. The setting at the job “wins” no matter what the part’s setting is in the part Site record.

Good afternoon.

Does the system backflush any amount of parts upon a partial completion of the operation? For example, 50 pcs out of 100 are completed, will the system backflush 50 pieces worth of material or does backflush only happen all at once upon completion of an Operation in its entirety?
