This is fire and syncfusion is legit!

Imagine if they make the browser report designer available and also allow custom reports with WebAPI data sources… RDD works for legacy, REST-based reports for future-proofing, built-in report designer for no more download, design, upload, preview, design, publish.

There’s a thousand solutions out there, no use in speculating, they are working on a solution we’ll see :crossed_fingers:

What an adult thing to say. Who said fun had to have a use or a point.

Uncharacteristically adult, I will add that I’m just glad they have already been looking at solutions long before SQL Server 2025 announcement.

Hi Utah,

We are in the same boat, working to change some crystal reports to SSRS for 2025.1 upgrade. We will remain on premise at this time. But browser only is preferable for our users. Do you know if we can still run crystal when in 2025.1 using browser only, no smart client?

thanks,
Nancy

I haven’t tried an XML based crystal, but I imagine it will still work. I can tell you that a crystal linked to ODBC, like an ODBC to a read only copy of the database provided by Epicor for those in the cloud, will work fine in the browser. EDIT: In 2024.2

I haven’t tried it in 2025 yet.

It requires the edge agent.

I didn’t include that bit, but yeah

Hi Alisa,

Do you mean for the typical Crystal / xml or the ODBC connection recommended by Utah or both?

Thanks,
Nancy

Both, because it needs to access the crystal runtime on your client if I am not mistaken, right @aosemwengie1

To run a crystal report in the browser requires the edge agent.

@Nancy_Hoyt I believe @Gwolgamott and his company use crystal if I am not mistaken. I think they may be on 2025? @JillMetalworks would be able to answer that too I believe.

we still have the crystal hooks in Kinetic in 2025..

ALSO, be on the lookout for an upcoming announcement for a replacement for Crystal & SSRS… coming soon!
