Stock Status

I believe if you don't use the print preview and
just print, the file will be permanent. You will
have to keep an eye on the Vntgwork directory
so it doesn't fill up with junk.

When I import it into Word as encode it stays in the vntgwork, import it
into Excel it disappears. The printer is setup as local.

Todd: Someone else on this list told me of this method that I use all the
time for import into excel of the 'canned' Vantage reports. You set up a new
printer that has as the default to print to a file.
You then select this printer for the report. When the program asks for the
file name to print to you instead cancel. Vantage will notify you that it has
created a text file (fixed width) of the data in the default directory,
usually C:/vntgwork\RPTxxxxx.TXT.
You can then import into excel.

I was wondering if anyone had a stock status report that I could dump
into an excel spreadsheet or tell me how I can put the existing one into
excel.
Thanks a lot Matt I will give it a try

We no longer allow attachments to files. To access/share Report Files,
please go to the following link: http://www.egroups.com/files/vantage/
(Note: If this link does not work for you the first time you try it, go
to www.egroups.com, login and be sure to save your password, choose My
Groups, choose Vantage, then choose Files. If you save the password,
the link above will work the next time you try it.)
I dont see an option on the printer settings to enable "print to file" I
know that option is available as a check box when you select the printer
when your in an Word or Excel doc but that is the only place I can find
it.

Wait a minute you guys. Just do a print preview, then go into explorer and
the report.txt will be there as the most current file in vntgwork directory.
Copy it to another directory and rename it. I use monarch to parse it. Be
sure to keep the print preview up until your done copying.
The txt-file created by the dummy-printer disappears from the vntgwork
directory after you close the print preview in Vantage...why ?

You can set up a Generic Printer that prints to a file by doing the following:

Start/Settings/Printers/Add Printer
Select "Generic/Text Only" from the Manufacturer list. Select "FILE: Creates a file on disk" from Available ports.

When you print, choose the Generic Printer and it will ask you for a filename. By default it gives a .prn extension, but you can change this to .txt so it can be more easily opened with a text editor. Sometimes formatting doesn't look quite the same when printing to a file this way, but I've used it to grab a portion of a report that I needed (instead of printing 50 pages or something).

I have a generic text printer setup in my printers. When I export a file from Vantage to Excel, I select the gen/text printer, name the file. Then I open a blank sheet in Excel and then go to File, Open in Excel and select the file I just downloaded. It opens the
fixed width window and brings in the information.

I hope this is easier for you.
