To that last point, most of our labels are done via PowerApps and BarTender API (but it pulls Epicor data). So they don’t even need the Edge Agent (or Kinetic for that matter).
Or we are discussing auto-printing some labels via BPM.
Either way, we are mighty close to client-free.
Oh, DMT is one thing I do need to “install” for a handful of users. Yes, there are disadvantages; it’s been covered here before. Just saying, it does require a local install. (This is not Edge Agent; it’s just a copy of a folder to their machine.)
We’re also SaaS on Quick Ship. Our users don’t need to have a “Edge Agent” like client installed on their computer to print from inside QS. We do have a local server PC running a Quick Ship client that handles this. Is there something similar for Kinetic? I found this KB: EpicCare Knowledge Article - EpicCare (epicor.com). It’s not perfect but better than install on every computer.
Me too! The web client is good enough that we’d be using it now. The only thing edge agent does for us is create a breaking dependency. If the web client worked without edge agent we’d be there immediately.
It’s especially frustrating that the only printing we do that’s related to how we’d use the web client is to work around not being able to use the web client so we don’t have to print.
We’re SaaS in Epicor, QuickShip and ECM. I realize it wouldn’t cover all cases but I’d like to see a QS like server client to avoid installing Edge Agent on all users’ computers for printing.
If EA would be installed on server how would you open attachment for example on local computer?
If question is about printing only, why don’t just use server printing in Kinetic.
EA in local mode operates in the context of local user. so it cannot be some network service somewhere.
If it is just started from some network drive but runs on local machine, it would still required changes - like work with localhost certificate, which should be trusted somehow, and autostart on reboot. So it is not trivial.
