I upgraded from 4.0 to 5.2 on a test server and converted everything straight to 5.2 on the test server then moved them to our live server after the conversion there. Because of the need to switch from Crystal 8.0 to 8.5 in Vantage 5.20 it was a lot better to do the Crystal reports just once as long as the users were never going to see the intermediate releases.

Two gotchas I had in the RB (and somewhat in Crystal too) were all the references to Qty that changed to OurQty and SellingQty and at least one table that added a field called JobType which I had used extensively in reports. I had to rename JobType on 4.0 first then convert it for 5.20 because in RB on 5.20 it crashed RB everytime it encounterd a function field named JobType. If you keep your own versions of Crystal reports you may also see some field mappings being required on the Qty name changes.

Depending how many report builder reports you have for example and how many
surprises you want the day you go live. I generally convert all forms and
reports prior and still get a surprise or two.
