User for User Conference

Thanks Marty. I am supposed to present a session there but had not heard anything more about it. Not being a member of VMUG may be why I did not receive the email announcement. I had tried to contact Calvin but he may have been busy or away from email.

Bob & Everyone -

I have compiled the User4User conference to run on a very tight budget.
The price for the conference could have been raised so as to allow for
a lack of attendance. By raising the price to 900-1000 per person, we
could ensure that the conference will go on without risk of cancellation.

For the cost of 900 per person and a attendance rate of 50% what type of
networking are you going to achieve, how much collaboration would be
missed in the class rooms. A lack of attendance diminishes the quality
of the event. I wouldn't want a Birds of a Feather seating with only
one bird in attendance - it would kind of defeat the purpose.

The economies have been changing and business is picking up for many
companies since three years ago the conference is now even more
affordable and possible.

Where else can you exchange ideas, learn software tips and tricks,
enhance your usage of the Vantage product, and network face to face with
members from this forum - for under 1000 bucks?

We currently need another 60 attendees to keep this conference
running. If your company will support your attendance, please do not
hesitate in registering. We will know by July 15th if the conference
is at risk of cancellation and will advise everyone at that time. If
you can, postpone the purchase of your airfare
until that date - so as to not risk any loss.

This conference is being done by members volunteering to help others.
When we work together the benefits will more than outweigh the cost.

To everyone that is interested in attending, please send a message to
conference@... so that I may keep close watch over the
attendance forecasts.

If anyone has a question regarding one of the sessions, or the about
the conference, please email me directly: calvin@...

Thank you in advance,
Cal

I'm sorry to hear some you lost money trying to support this
event a few years back.

However, I still think it is a great idea. I, for one, have
never been able to attend Prospectives, and think this is a
good cheap alternative.

I was just looking at the events calendar for Chicago.
Fortunately or unfortunately, nothing MAJOR is scheduled for
Chicago, which to me means I can buy a ticket about a couple
of weeks ahead of time instead of a couple of months ahead
of time.

Maybe those that got screwed (for lack of a better term) on
airfare can consider this and at least register now and buy
the tickets later?

When Calvin asked me to do a session at the User for User Conference he told me the focus was to be on 6.x. In part because so much of the focus for Perspectives is on 8.0. I feel the two are very complemtary. Most of us on 6.x will be so for awhile and can really use the experience of other users. We are also headed inevitably for 8.0 and Perspectives will fill the need for more information on that (as well as the chance to talk to the pioneers of that version - both new sites and upgraders. We are probably 18-24 months away from being live on 8.0 so 6.X knowledge will clearly pay-off in the mean time BUT I will want to learn as much about 8.0 as possible because that upgrade simply MUST go a smoothly as possible.

I plan to attend both conferences. In order to "sell" the "User for User" meeting to management I "cut a deal" - rather than fly I will drive, rather than charge the 40 cents per mile for the 800 mile round trip I will charge only the gas for the car (probably $80 or so). In the bargain I get to bring my wife, mostly for free, along for a mini-vacation that weekend in the Windy City and southern Wisconsin. Eating the wear and tear on the car is fine because what I learn will make my job less difficult and stressful. Win-Win for me and the company both.

I know some folks are considerably further away so driving is not an option. Perhaps if some of you have a plant near the midwest a remote-site visit plus a car rental to Chicago could be combined to reduce the risk of airfare loss?

I'm really hoping to see a lof of people in Chicago and even more later in Las Vegas.

-Todd C.

The User for User Conference sponsored by the Vantage Midwest User Group is
officially set to go for August 11-12 at the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton in
Schiller Park, Illinois. Below is the invite that every member of VMUG, and this
list, should have received. If you have any other questions contact me or Calvin
Dekker (calvin@...), our VMUG Chairman.

Special Note:

We have received enough registrations to insure that this U4U conference will be
held. So, get your registration in and saddle up the pony, book the flight, or
gas up the car and come on down.
