Vantage 407A - absolutely the easiest question ever

What if you were to change the invoice form in Crystal to put the Company number in front of the invoice number giving you all 7 digits.
Yes the invoice numbers could be used in each company, but the prefix printed on the invoice would tell accounting which company to log into to work with the invoice.

Brz in Mpls.

invoices allow 7 digits. What happens when you reach 9,999,999? Is the earth flat, and we all fall off? Does it roll back? To what? 1?

Never really thought that deeply about it- just made sure we didn't start numbering at the last available number...

Does anyone know?

If you reach that limit, it means your organization has earned enormous
amounts of revenue and it's time to move to SAP.

Not really sure to be honest. I'll be 85, retired and living in Aruba
before my company reaches that limit. :-)

Thinking aloud.....

you would have to do around 385 invoices per day for 100 years to use that many numbers.....

In a test database, I set the start order to 9999998, added a couple
orders and it actually went past 9999999, to 10000000, 10000001,
10000002, etc. Not what I would have guessed. Next not so "easiest
question". Is the rest of the system ready for that? :-)

If you start at 999999, you would have to enter 246.5 invoices every day for
100 years to get to 9999999. I tried to open my Test database and set the
Invoice number to 9999999, but it will only accept 6 digits in the starting
Invoice number field, I guess Epicor wanted to leave at least a 9,000,000
Invoice buffer to leave room for startup mishaps.

I think that if you look at your test environment, that you will find you
entered 999998 instead of 9999998. At least I could not enter 7 digits on
803.405.

Leann

we went live last summer with 404b and started our invoice numbers in the 9,99x,000 range (major oversight we import some old invoice numbers). Vantage continued generating invoice numbers past 10 million, however was unable to use them in any way - would not display on reports or in the tracker. Epicor stated that the system had a bug and should not have let us continue - not sure if they corrected that in later versions. To put it simply, we had to have some custom programming done to resolve the issue by changing the invoice numbers put the old number in a UDF.

That was fun!

Nope, enter 9999998. However, we're on 407 and I entered it in the "Start Order" field in company maintenance. It then incremented past 9999999.

It is not obvious to me that 9999999 is actually the limit.

The actual data ABL type for the field is INT, which has a range of -2147483648 to +2147483647.
