Vantage 5.1 Conversion Diary - Part II Bugs Encoun tered

Tim,
This isn't intended to sound or be sarcastic I'm just curious. If
Epicor does not use its participation in this list as a problem/heads
up/"focus on this" type of tool, doesn't use it for general announcements,
or as a support tool, what does it get from its participation? This is a
busy active list the users certainly benifit.

"we can't expect Epicor to use this list as a bug recording tool."

Why not use the list as a bug reporting tool?
If 60 vantage people monitor the list and read about a bug, you would
think
Epicor could save them self's and the user base work by designating one
Epicor employee as the OneList bug catcher. If we talk about a bug or
issue
and no one reports it that means 60 Epicor people are walking around
going,
"I know its in our database somewhere, I remember reading about it. Oh
well,
I'm sure it will get fixed."

First, thanks for the list of "Bugs Encountered", I'm trying to accumulate
my own list - most of my conversion problems stemmed from 5.0 stuff, not
5.1.

Second, if I may:

I downloaded patches all through the month of December:

5.1.111 on 12/14/01
5.1.112 on 12/26/01
5.1.113 on 12/29/01

These through the usual download on the website, not FTP. I tend to
download and keep patches-doesn't take long, they aren't very big. I
don't
know which of these corrected the problem. When I did my test (the first
week of December) I did not have the problem with "hanging" on my
conversion-this prior to the 111 patch being available.

One of the real problems that I see here is that people go on this list
and
don't bother to report things to tech support, then can't understand when
problems don't get fixed. The list is great for "how does everybody
handle
their new shipping procedure?" or "what's a good label printer?" or "I
have
a report builder problem, can someone help?" It's great to be informed
about bugs that are in the software, too, but we can't expect Epicor to
use
this list as a bug recording tool. That's why tech support is there.

I agree that a polite phone call may have been enough on the whole "don't
put our patches out there" issue, though.

Beating a dead horse.

Lydia

1. One piece of good news, as of the 113 patch released 1/3/02, the
cvxa0047.p issue has been corrected.
The fix was available prior to Christmas shutdown.
2. If more of us who experienced the conversion problem would have called
support maybe Epicor would have addressed it sooner; but, would have it
been
available in time before the Christmas shutdown???...

Use the App. Fax Number 952-582-5568. Support will enter then enter it into
the Clientele Enhancement Answerbook. No matter how you submit an
enhancement request, make sure to identify it as an enhancement request and
remember to be as thorough in describing what you would like to see the
software do so that others browsing through the suggestions will get a
clearer picture of your request and may be more apt to attach themselves to
it.

Patrick,

Use the App. Fax Number 952-582-5568. Support will enter then enter it into
the Clientele Enhancement Answerbook. No matter how you submit an
enhancement request, make sure to identify it as an enhancement request and
remember to be as thorough in describing what you would like to see the
software do so that others browsing through the suggestions will get a
clearer picture of your request and may be more apt to attach themselves to
it.

Tim,

To submit a suggestion/enhancement/but/error message by fax to Epicor I see
three fax numbers listed on your web site along with a fourth for Europe.
Which one should I use or does it matter?

Fax: 952-582-5572
App. Fax: 952-582-5568
Tech Fax: 952-582-5567
Europe Fax: +44 (0) 1344.468.050

Patrick,

Our involvement in the list was never intended to provide support through
it. We do not have any resources positioned to monitor the list full time.
The 800 number, fax and eranet are the tools we have in place to provide
support.

"we can't expect Epicor to use this list as a bug recording tool."

Why not use the list as a bug reporting tool?
If 60 vantage people monitor the list and read about a bug, you would think
Epicor could save them self's and the user base work by designating one
Epicor employee as the OneList bug catcher. If we talk about a bug or issue
and no one reports it that means 60 Epicor people are walking around going,
"I know its in our database somewhere, I remember reading about it. Oh well,
I'm sure it will get fixed."

I don't
know which of these corrected the problem. When I did my test (the first
week of December) I did not have the problem with "hanging" on my
conversion-this prior to the 111 patch being available.

One of the real problems that I see here is that people go on this list and
don't bother to report things to tech support, then can't understand when
problems don't get fixed. The list is great for "how does everybody handle
their new shipping procedure?" or "what's a good label printer?" or "I have
a report builder problem, can someone help?" It's great to be informed
about bugs that are in the software, too, but we can't expect Epicor to use
this list as a bug recording tool.

2. If more of us who experienced the conversion problem would have called
support maybe Epicor would have addressed it sooner; but, would have it been
available in time before the Christmas shutdown???...
