Report builder is a necessary tool to most of us. I find it interesting
that a VENDOR can so dictate to a CUSTOMER. IF Epicor/Progress can
resolve Crystal performance issues, how crystal handles blob fields, how
to add Crystal reports to a Vantage menu, Use Crystal reports in a VB
form, I will probably call them some un repeatable names and move on.
But if they just leave us hanging. These large organizations
Progress/Epicor don't make these kinds of fundamental changes without
there being an over riding benefit... TO THEM. So what do they get out
of this.

From what I understood, Epicor wasn't dropping report builder, progress was
not continuing the development of it. I am also an extensive user of report
builder and I do hope they provide a good alternative. But, I would welcome
a change despite the re-work that will be required, b/c I find Report
Builder to be a pretty weak reporting tool compared to others.

If you think about it, it is not logical for report builder to be used with
Sonoma. If its being built on a .Net framework the Progress report builder
will not interface well in the front end. No matter if its a good or bad
thing, Crystal is the defacto standard in reporting and I happy to see
Epicor moving to a more industry standard architecture. From an IT Managers
viewpoint I can hire a person with Crystal skills very easily. Report
writer on the other hand is barely heard of outside of Progress.

Sonoma is not built on the .NET framework. It encapsulates the business
logic in Progress in a middle tier per Progress's new "dynamics" application
server platform. This architecture allows for any number of technologies,
including .NET, Java, etc.. to bind to the business tier for presentation or
data transfer or whatever. Playing nicely with .NET is one of it's selling
points but Vistage certainly hasn't been completely rewritten in one of the
.NET common language runtime compliant languages for the Sonoma release.
You'll have to wait for Epicor to go all the way to Napa for that...or maybe
they will discover ICE in MPLS? Who knows?

We are in the process of testing vantage 6.0 with hopes to upgrade
soon. I am running into a problem though and was wondering if anyone
else has seen this. When I try to run an A/R or A/P aging report I
get an error message that 'a default aging report must exist before
running this report. I also get a similar error message 'no aging
rpt rmt record is available' when I try to get into the A/P or A/R
module under module under company configuration. I see that under
report style those are two new categories but the system default
report is checked so I am at a loss for what to do to fix it. Any

In 6.0 you need to set the aging report formats before running them. You
can find this in the master files under AP or AR.

Just had to ask if it's me or if others see this as well. I have recently
installed Vantage 6.0 and when I use my Account Tracker for General ledger
activity and view the detail of a specific month the screen displays Date,
description and Debit Amount. The Credit amount is hidden. In order to
look at all activity on my screen I have to A) scroll the screen, but the
detail description doesn't display or B) narrow the description field so
that I see all the information I need. Unfortunately I can't keep these
settings. It drives me nuts why something as simple as this would now cause
me extra effort to look at a frigging account balance.

I would suggest in future that Epicor hire programmers who are able to
balance their own bank account before letting them touch stuff that worked
wonderfully before.

If anyone out there doesn't experience the same thing or can tell me I am
doing something wrong I would appreciate it. ( I would gladly except the
role of Corporate Idiot if I could view this stuff better as it is a daily
activity of mine)

Epicor give you the normal level of support with 98 machines. Three
quarters of our PCs on Vantage are 98 and about 6 have problems. The main
problem we've seen is with using the trackers while having job entry open.
Some of them suffer flashing screens and the others have Vantage crash. We
haven't been able to isolate the problem yet to give Epicor a solid lead to
go on but overall it's no too much of a problem.

Can anyone verify for me whether Vantage 6.0 has a VBFORM in Data
Collection ? We need to input heat number at the time of data collection
in order to successfully print our part tags after each operation - I
was told that the VBFORM was in this version but, have now been told by
another sales rep that it is not. I will not be loading 6.0 as a test
until early next month. If not in 6.0 - is it in a later version?
