Vantage 6.1 Serial Number Module

It sounds like your job has a material line for this serial number tracked
part, where the parent part of the job is also the same part number. If
that is the case, then that's why you are having the "unique" message. We
do some similar transactions except that for some items, we receive them
from inspection and then ship directly from inventory. Since the part is
resold just as purchased with no added value or change to the part there is
no need for a job.

However, we also have situations where we do need a job and cannot ship
directly from inventory as purchased. For those there are times when we
assign a different part number which allow use of the same serial number.
And there are times when we need to use the same part number, but assign a
new serial number - usually with a suffix or prefix. (Those depend upon
several factors such as Customer requests; or whether it is a vendor
assigned serial no., or our own; and of course the nature the change that
required the job.)

We upgraded to Vantage 6.1 last weekend. On Monday our receiving
department began adding S/N's in receipt entry. The part is sent to
inspection; inspection checks the part and releases to the job.

Today we will ship the S/N; it is not available to select in the
customer packing slip and when we try to add it we receive a message
that S/N must be unique??

I have spoken with Epicor Technical Department, they couldn't find
any reference to a problem and offered to send a request for a fix
but that they were no longer patching 6.1 so it was not likely to get
repaired. One of the reasons we upgraded was for the patch support :(

That aside; I wonder if anyone has any information that might help us
with our problem?
