Vantage freezing up randomly

We are also having this issue - since we started using terminal services. I hate to confuse matters by adding TS into the mix. I can't seem to pin point what is causing this. For us it is when you F6 and print a screen. 99.9% of the time. Their vantage locks up and they have to log off or I kill their session and then they get back in.

We've had this happen as well, but we are on 6.1. And it is random. In any
module, printing or not printing.
Definitely happens alot in the Engineering Workbench.

So if you do find out what is happening, let us know.

325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on

new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going

and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

Most of our problems occur when printing a Crystal Form. Occasionaly
they get booted out when not printing at all. Our printing is being
run through a seperate server to HP printers.

We are upgrading to 6.1 from 4.0. I hope to go live with 6.1 in the next
month or two.
While testing 6.1 I also had some issues when trying to print or even
preview a customized CR form.
The progress version of the Soform worked ok. I submitted our customized
soform (and others) to Epicor and they were able to fix them so that they
worked as intended without knocking me out.
I received these yesterday so more testing will be done to verify the
results.

I also am suspect that some of the problems may have started occurring when
XP SP2 was installed on the clients.
I understand that the XP firewall and Crystal 8.5 may have issues.

Hi Juliet,

We had the same problem with f6.
The answer I found was to press Alt Print Screen.
This will allow the Vantage prompts to display.
It saves having to shutdown.
At least it works for us.

To allieviate some lockup and printing problems we've done two things. 1)
Turning off the XP firewall really helps. 2) How do you have your network
printers set up? If you have them shared off a computer we noticed more
lockup problems when printing. Set the printers on the network using HPs

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage freezing up randomly


Hi,

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring
end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever
since
upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever
experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed
patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on
the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going
back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

I tried this and the buttons do not display. Are you talking about the Submenu that has the following buttons: Close, Print, Preview, Help? Did you have to do something special to get them to show up? My terminals do not have word or WordPad on them for people to paste into (if I could even get them to do that).

Hi Juliet,

We had the same problem with f6.
The answer I found was to press Alt Print Screen.
This will allow the Vantage prompts to display.
It saves having to shutdown.
At least it works for us.

services. I hate to confuse matters by adding TS into the mix. I can't
seem to pin point what is causing this. For us it is when you F6 and
print a screen. 99.9% of the time. Their vantage locks up and they
have to log off or I kill their session and then they get back in.

If you're just having problems when doing screen dumps, you might consider
using the PrintKey 2000 utility. (Google for download sites) It's
free-ware, and does screen prints and captures from Vantage or any other
windoze program.

We've also had some problems with systems hanging in Vantage. We are
currently on version 6.1, and I don't remember having the problems
before this version. I've seen it happen when printing as well as
when doing other things. The other problem we had recently was the
database got hung up on the server. We've been running Vantage for
over 3 years now, and this was the first time I've had to reboot the
server because the database hung and nobody could get into it. The
resources on the server were so taxed that I could not even stop the
database in the Progress Explorer Tool.

When we first went from 4.0 to 6.0 we had problems with positions that
printed a lot hanging and getting kicked out while printing. I did full
regedits searching on "progress" and removing entries not referencing
MicroSoft. Old versions of Vantage leave lots of garbage in the registry.
This cured the problem for us. I have seventeen network printers (all HP's)
on one print server with no problems, not on the Vantage server.

This has happened to us as well with 'The

In fact this happened about 8 times during a three week period. What makes
the situation bizarre is we were not doing anything different during that
time.

I almost feel glad it is happening to someone else.

Hi Juliet,

The way it works for us is;
The screen locks up, the user presses alt print screen and after that
the buttons show up for Vantage screen print.
Also if you press f6 choose print preview.
For some reason for us it works better.

first place to start would be to find some common ground in these
workstations that are having a problem....there seems to be a bunch. Epicor
has been aware of these issues for a long time.

What OS?
Workstation configuration?
Vantage Version and patch level?
Crystal reports installed? What version?
Progress version and patch level?
What other applications are running when these lockups occur?

Hi,

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever since
upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there. So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!
