Vantage freezing up randomly

We are using Windows 2003 server. All stations are on Windows XP SP1.
I get about 1 or 2 calls a day where I need to kick somebody out of
Vantage because they got locked up and can't get back in. I was told
the only way to disconnect a user is via the server (Proman) which is
very inconvient. Since I am not always available, we created a script
to run on the server that works in conjunction with an Access form that
will allow my power users to disconnect users from the system. A little
more testing and I'm going to let them loose with it. As another user
said, nice to see I'm not alone...

Seems to be a pretty popular argument with everyone? Ever since I
upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0 we have it happen to us on a regular bases. I
have talked with support also and no results from it. So I am also up
for any suggestions.

have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like

boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

We have experienced two types of freezing problem (we started on
Vantage 6.1 and are currently running Vantage 6.1.509):
1) Our A/R user's PC would freeze-up when printing individual invoice
documents. This is/was an isolated but chronic problem limited to one
XP work station, sevice pack 1. We are in week two of no freeze-ups.
We excluded *.rpt & *.dbf files from our e-trust anti-virus scanning.
So far, so good.

2) We had several NT4.0 worskstations that would freeze-up regularly
when accessing Vantage. The specific users were a shop planner and
our Bill of Materials administrator. We bought a new XP machine for
the BOM admin and that eliminated his freeze-ups. We upgraded the
shop planner to Windows2000 and that has eliminated her freeze-up
problems.

We still have a question mark with Crystal printing in general. We
had several past instances of documents not printing. We added the
*.rpt and *.dbf exclusions to all our workstation's and are
monitoring workstations that had problems in the past. Time will tell.

week. But it happens to them daily 3 or 4 times a day. I am running 5.2

We went to 5.2 patch 325 in December and immediately the program
started kicking me out right after I used Job Closing. Support
stated there was a known bug with using the Candidates radio button
when closing jobs. I stopped using the button to identify jobs to be
closed and it drastically reduced the number of times I am kicked
out of Vantage. The next most popular time the program closes is
when we are printing a Crystal form purchase order.

We have been running Vantage version 5 on Windows 2003 server since
October and have been experiencing this problem ever since. All
workstations are XP.

I think this is a great idea (to compile everyone's information and look for
similarities or at least let it be know that this is common issue among many
users). I would be happy to volunteer to compile the information and call
it into tech support / my account rep / or whoever I need to at vantage to
get it taken seriously as a problem that we need help with. They actually
told me there are no known issues like this (at least on 5.2 which I am on),
so it really sounds like there is a communication issue with how they record
and track these things...

first place to start would be to find some common ground in these
workstations that are having a problem....there seems to be a bunch. Epicor
has been aware of these issues for a long time.

What OS?

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring
end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever
since
upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever
experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed
patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on
the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going
back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

Our server room was recently destroyed by fire. Prior to the fire we ran Win
2000 Server and ALL users ran Vantage 5.2.325 in Terminal Server Sessions
printing to a variety of printers and no problems with Vantage dropouts.
After the fire we set up new servers running 2003 Server and reinstalled
Vantage 5.2.325 which is still run in TS for all users. We now get random
dropouts, initially triggered when printing a Crystal Form and now also when
closing screens.

Seems to be a pretty popular argument with everyone? Ever since I
upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0 we have it happen to us on a regular bases. I
have talked with support also and no results from it. So I am also up
for any suggestions.

I think this is a great idea (to compile everyone's information and look for
similarities or at least let it be know that this is common issue among many
users). I would be happy to volunteer to compile the information and call
it into tech support / my account rep / or whoever I need to at vantage to
get it taken seriously as a problem that we need help with. They actually
told me there are no known issues like this (at least on 5.2 which I am on),
so it really sounds like there is a communication issue with how they record
and track these things...

workstations that are having a problem....there seems to be a bunch. Epicor
has been aware of these issues for a long time.

Since we just went Live our users are complaining about this
consistently. I had to go the Dentist yesterday so was not able to
assist a user after Vantage froze up on her. She tried the "end task"
option but without any luck. She was locked out for over an hour. Not
very efficient.



We love this program - it's so much better than our last one but at
least the last one never locked up or knocked us out on a consistent
basis. And, table locks can hang until the user logs out of Vantage
sometimes.

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring
end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever

upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever
experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed
patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on
the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going
back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

Our system freezes all day long, everyday. I seem to have narrowed my
problem down to the Job Closing module. That module locks everyone
up, and not just me. Others here get locked when printing, or using
the dashboard. We are at 6.10.512.

I agree, this is a common problem, and Epicor should resolve it.

We are on 5.2, and have one workstation in particular that freezes Vantage,
but it doesn't need to be printing anything to do it!

We formatted and reloaded the box and it got no better.

Is there a member that is willing to volunteer a little time to analyze the
details?

If so then those members wishing to participate should go to:

www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html and download AIDA32. This is a free
system analysis tool, it includes a review of .dll files. It also generates
a text file print out of the analysis.
Our volunteer will take these reports and look for common factors and share
their findings with the group.

Those folks who submit AIDA reports should know that this is VERY detailed
and should review them sensitive information before submitting them to our
Volunteer.
Also, we may wish to share those detailed reports with EPICOR.

The goal here is to solve the problem and share this with EPICOR to help
resolve the issue.

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage freezing up randomly


Hi,

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring
end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever
since
upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever
experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed
patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on
the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going
back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

I had the job closing issue when I upgraded to 6.1. There is a fix for
that, it involves changing a variable in PET. You should get an answer on
ePortal or call support.

Our system freezes all day long, everyday. I seem to have narrowed my
problem down to the Job Closing module. That module locks everyone up, and
not just me. Others here get locked when printing, or using the dashboard.
We are at 6.10.512.

I agree, this is a common problem, and Epicor should resolve it.

I will definitely volunteer and I will volunteer out network administrator
to help analyze the results since he is more technical than I... I'm going
to check out this tool here now...

Oh - and last night I had a long conversation with tech support. Basically,
again I heard that they have not heard of this happening to others ongoing
and all issues have been resolved. The woman I spoke with was very nice,
but I definitely get the feeling that they are not classifying problems and
solutions well for the tech analysts to access them. She suggested that I
pay to have one of their consultants come out and analyze my network to try
to fix it since my database is fine. Then, later she sent me a 'black box'
utility that gets installed and creates a log which I ran and sent back to
her last night. I will let you all know what I find out from that.

Is there a member that is willing to volunteer a little time to analyze the
details?

If so then those members wishing to participate should go to:

www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html and download AIDA32. This is a free
system analysis tool, it includes a review of .dll files. It also generates
a text file print out of the analysis.
Our volunteer will take these reports and look for common factors and share
their findings with the group.

Those folks who submit AIDA reports should know that this is VERY detailed
and should review them sensitive information before submitting them to our
Volunteer.
Also, we may wish to share those detailed reports with EPICOR.

The goal here is to solve the problem and share this with EPICOR to help
resolve the issue.

We are on 5.2, and have one workstation in particular that freezes Vantage,
but it doesn't need to be printing anything to do it!

We went through that same cycle.
I was told by Craig Kumpula that Epicor had found a problem.
I apologize for not being able to tell you the case number.
I should have it memorized because it dragged on for ever.
Please give Craig a call and refer to our case.

Oh - and last night I had a long conversation with tech support.
Basically,
again I heard that they have not heard of this happening to others

and all issues have been resolved. The woman I spoke with was very

but I definitely get the feeling that they are not classifying problems
and
solutions well for the tech analysts to access them. She suggested that
I
pay to have one of their consultants come out and analyze my network to
try
to fix it since my database is fine. Then, later she sent me a 'black
box'
utility that gets installed and creates a log which I ran and sent back
to
her last night. I will let you all know what I find out from that.

Is there a member that is willing to volunteer a little time to analyze
the
details?

If so then those members wishing to participate should go to:

www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html and download AIDA32. This is a
free
system analysis tool, it includes a review of .dll files. It also
generates
a text file print out of the analysis.
Our volunteer will take these reports and look for common factors and
share
their findings with the group.

Those folks who submit AIDA reports should know that this is VERY
detailed
and should review them sensitive information before submitting them to
our
Volunteer.
Also, we may wish to share those detailed reports with EPICOR.

The goal here is to solve the problem and share this with EPICOR to help
resolve the issue.

Seems to be a pretty popular argument with everyone? Ever since I
upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0 we have it happen to us on a regular bases. I

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring
end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever
since
upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever
experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed
patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on
the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going
back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

Thanks, John, now I remember that. Last night when I was talking to
support, I actually asked to talk to Craig b/c I had read an email on this
list that he helped someone (it was probably you) with the same or similar
problem. She said she could give me his voicemail but he worked in
production and they had already sent me back to tech and then she didn't
transfer me over - I must have gotten side-tracked (I was talking to her for
about 1/2 hour pleading my case), and I have no clue why I forgot to follow
up on speaking with him. I will call today and just ask for him. Thanks!!

Seems to be a pretty popular argument with everyone? Ever since I
upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0 we have it happen to us on a regular bases. I
have talked with support also and no results from it. So I am also up

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring
end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever
since
upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever
experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed
patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on
the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going
back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!

I will definitely volunteer and I will volunteer out network administrator
to help analyze the results since he is more technical than I... I'm going
to check out this tool here now...

Oh - and last night I had a long conversation with tech support. Basically,
again I heard that they have not heard of this happening to others ongoing
and all issues have been resolved. The woman I spoke with was very nice,
but I definitely get the feeling that they are not classifying problems and
solutions well for the tech analysts to access them. She suggested that I
pay to have one of their consultants come out and analyze my network to try
to fix it since my database is fine. Then, later she sent me a 'black box'
utility that gets installed and creates a log which I ran and sent back to
her last night. I will let you all know what I find out from that.

Since this issue is the HOT Topic. Here is a suggestion to the group.

Is there a member that is willing to volunteer a little time to analyze the
details?

If so then those members wishing to participate should go to:

www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html and download AIDA32. This is a free
system analysis tool, it includes a review of .dll files. It also generates
a text file print out of the analysis.
Our volunteer will take these reports and look for common factors and share
their findings with the group.

Those folks who submit AIDA reports should know that this is VERY detailed
and should review them sensitive information before submitting them to our
Volunteer.
Also, we may wish to share those detailed reports with EPICOR.

The goal here is to solve the problem and share this with EPICOR to help
resolve the issue.

but it doesn't need to be printing anything to do it!

Since we just went Live our users are complaining about this
consistently. I had to go the Dentist yesterday so was not able to
assist a user after Vantage froze up on her. She tried the "end task"
option but without any luck. She was locked out for over an hour. Not
very efficient.



We love this program - it's so much better than our last one but at
least the last one never locked up or knocked us out on a consistent
basis. And, table locks can hang until the user logs out of Vantage
sometimes.

first place to start would be to find some common ground in these
workstations that are having a problem....there seems to be a bunch.

has been aware of these issues for a long time.

I ran the AIDA tool on our server and on an example workstation that is
experiencing the problems and I have the reports. It only takes a few
minutes to download and run this tool. Our network admin won't be in until
the afternoon today, so once he gets in I will review our info with him to
determine which information (pages) are useful for this analysis.

I will definitely volunteer and I will volunteer out network administrator
to help analyze the results since he is more technical than I... I'm going
to check out this tool here now...

Oh - and last night I had a long conversation with tech support. Basically,
again I heard that they have not heard of this happening to others ongoing
and all issues have been resolved. The woman I spoke with was very nice,
but I definitely get the feeling that they are not classifying problems and
solutions well for the tech analysts to access them. She suggested that I
pay to have one of their consultants come out and analyze my network to try
to fix it since my database is fine. Then, later she sent me a 'black box'
utility that gets installed and creates a log which I ran and sent back to
her last night. I will let you all know what I find out from that.

Is there a member that is willing to volunteer a little time to analyze the
details?

If so then those members wishing to participate should go to:

www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html and download AIDA32. This is a free
system analysis tool, it includes a review of .dll files. It also generates
a text file print out of the analysis.
Our volunteer will take these reports and look for common factors and share
their findings with the group.

Those folks who submit AIDA reports should know that this is VERY detailed
and should review them sensitive information before submitting them to our
Volunteer.
Also, we may wish to share those detailed reports with EPICOR.

The goal here is to solve the problem and share this with EPICOR to help
resolve the issue.

Are there any volunteers?

We are on 5.2, and have one workstation in particular that freezes Vantage,
but it doesn't need to be printing anything to do it!

We formatted and reloaded the box and it got no better.

Since we just went Live our users are complaining about this
consistently. I had to go the Dentist yesterday so was not able to
assist a user after Vantage froze up on her. She tried the "end task"
option but without any luck. She was locked out for over an hour. Not
very efficient.



We love this program - it's so much better than our last one but at
least the last one never locked up or knocked us out on a consistent
basis. And, table locks can hang until the user logs out of Vantage
sometimes.

first place to start would be to find some common ground in these
workstations that are having a problem....there seems to be a bunch.
Epicor
has been aware of these issues for a long time.

What OS?

Seems to be a pretty popular argument with everyone? Ever since I
upgraded from 5.2 to 6.0 we have it happen to us on a regular bases. I
have talked with support also and no results from it. So I am also up

Has anyone else ever had a problem with Vantage freezing up randomly and
then either closing out (with or without errors) or else requiring
end-task
to close it? This has started happening to us for the past month ever
since
upgrading our server and I was just wondering if anyone had ever
experienced
this before or had any suggestions? (we are still on 5.2, installed
patch
325 at the time of the server upgrade). I have run vantage directly on
the
new server also and the same problems occur so it does not seem to be
netwrok related. I have tried calling tech support and have been going
back
and forth for over 2 weeks, but I am really not getting anywhere there.
So,
I was just wondering if this group had any experience/advise on this
even if
it's just something to check that they think could affect this. I
really
have no idea why this is happening but it happens to 'power users' (like
my
boss!) 10-15 times a day where he gets kicked out and he is getting
pretty
agravated by it and I hate that I can't fix it!
