Visual Studio Blank Title 84540

We are building a console application for mass labor reporting (thermal
cutting applications where dozens of operations are 'nested' together.
They'll scan a Nest number and it queries vantage, finds associated
operations, then starts activity, and ends activities (via service
connect).

Thanks! That sounds somewhat similar to what we are trying to do.

What we want:

Run Cycle Count, export to Excel file (list of cycle count tags
w/pertinent information).
Upload this Excel file to a handheld via Active Sync.
Scan the barcodes for the required parts that are listed in the Excel
file. (The bar code information is being updated on the Excel sheet)
Then take the completed sheet and sync back to PC.
Then use Service Connect to put info back into Epicor.

We are doing all of this because we do not plan to install wireless in
our building. So essentially, we are using the handheld as a store and
forward.

Right now, we need an easy to use form for the people scanning. We would
like to have two options - (1) list of serialized parts - prompt for
serial number, (2) list of non-serialized parts - prompt for quantity.

I have someone trying to write a form in Excel, and I have someone
telling me I have to buy Visual Studio to accomplish this.

Would you recommend Visual Studio?
Anything to be concerned about with this software?

Hi,

Is anyone using Visual Studio with Epicor? If so, what are you using it for and why?

TIA,
Jennifer
I use VS2005 and have made a couple asp.net web front ends that accept Excel sheets and perform various lookups against the db using the BOs. The results are returned in a datagrid on the page and can then be exported back to Excel at the click of a button.

Example 1: A customer gives us a BOM with their part numbers on it. We submit that BOM in Excel format to the web app and it then returns the sheet with our P/Ns if they exist. Saves the engineering folk from having to look up one by one and keeps from creating duplicates for something that already exisits.

Example 2: Customer gives us a list of open POs and wants a status update. We submit list to web app and it returns our SO numbers (and other data).

Jen,

Check out ASPRunner Pro.

http://www.xlinesoft.com/asprunnerpro/

I use it to make queries public to Vantage and non-Vantage users via an intranet webpage. It will do what you need and also, by default, it exports VERY easily to CSV, XLS, DOC, etc.

Download a free trial and test it out. It generates and compiles all the necessary ASP code for you and then just copy up the Output folder to a webserver and BINGO...... you're done.
