Who have brought the Vantage source code from epico r?

I agree 100% - don't customize if you can at all avoid it. Vantage (especially 6.0 +) has pretty nice screen customization and the reports (Crystal and RB) are easy. The main thing is to not touch the database. With the VB form fields and user fields even the DB is pretty easy to tailor. The key is to be able to painlessly (mostly) upgrade to new versions. Years ago I inherited a highly customized MRP system (ASK's MANMAN) that was so heavily modified (they had the FORTRAN source) that it took over a year to perpetuate the changes to each new release. So they dropped support and took it totally in house, then the hardware vendor (DEC) obsoleted the database on older machines so to get a faster VAX/VMS system they needed the new DB and we were screwed. Ended up putting in a new system entirely.

My rule now is to never touch the DB or business logic of a system and to only tailor "around the edges".

This is kind of an interesting question to me.
We are currently moving from Dataflo to Vantage.

One of our problems with Dataflo was that we had done so much
customization over the years. We were remaining on a nine year old
release because of the trouble involved with upgrading a heavily
customized installation.
We figured that a new implementation of Vantage wouldn't be too hard
when compared to upgrading our Dataflo.

Needless to say, I'm against source code modifications.
I'm really hoping that the only modifications we'll need to make will
concern forms and reports. I really don't even consider these types of
changes as customizations.

Now I wonder what my fellow Vantage users have done with their software.
Can you tell me if you've customized? And why?

Thanks,
Bruce Ordway

I was told you could no longer buy it.

How much for that?
Is that useful?
is that mean the source is very expensive?
or epicor won't sell their source code?

because I have seen the source code for patch is available for
download in the Vantage download area.

Both - back when they did allow it to be purchased it was (in my opinion) pretty expensive. I checked on this a couple years ago and was told source code could no longer be purchased. I believe people who had purchased it way back when it was OK have the right (in theer maintenance agreements) to use current source code to update customizations they have done but now if you want a custom change you have to get it from Epicor.

I have to fall down on the side of keeping things as standard “out of
the box” as possible. I have spreadsheet junkies who devoutly believe
that their spreadsheets can compete with a program like vantage. They
can’t document or remember from one day to then next what changes
they’ve made. I’ll take plain vanilla, thank you very much.
